Man attacked, stabbed to death at Vreed-en-Hoop
A man was attacked and died on Saturday, moments after going to see his aunt who was visiting from the United States and staying at a house at New Road, Vreed-en-Hopp, West Coast Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force identified the dead man as Wafad Wahab, called Ricky, a 45-year-old Handyman (cart-pusher at Stabroek market) of Harlem, West Coast Demerara.
The incident occurred at about 18:50 hrs in the vicinity of Strikey’s Bar and was reportedly committed by three males.
A statement from Police Headquarters noted that Wahab went to visit his aunt, Kumarie, but when she saw that he was under the influence of alcohol, she reportedly told him that she did not like seeing him in that condition.
She advised him to go home, relax, and return the following day to see her. Wahab left and walked east along New Road, the police said.
Wahab was attacked by the suspects in the vicinity of Strikey’s Bar.
An eyewitness said the suspects rode off on bicycles in a northern direction into Evergreen Street and escaped.
After the attack, Wahab got up and staggered into Strikey’s bar, where the proprietor heard a customer shouting: “Watch this man bleeding hay, boy”.
The proprietor immediately called the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, and a police vehicle with ranks arrived within minutes. The police took the deceased shirt and tied his right hand, placed him into the vehicle and drove off.
The police escorted the deceased to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Dr Calvin Barker.
The body bore one wound to the left shoulder, one to the lower left back, one to the outer and one to the inner part of the right hand, close to the elbow, and one to the right side (ribs area).
The area was canvassed, and several CCTV cameras were seen, and footage is currently being extracted.
Checks are currently being made for the Suspects. Statements have been taken, and further investigations are in progress.
