Gov’t to install cameras, streetlights in every community- Pres. Ali

President Dr. Irfaan Ali says his government is serious about guaranteeing the safety of citizens and as such, efforts are being made to install security cameras and streetlights in every community across the country.

President Ali, who was speaking at a People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) rally in Dundee, Mahaicony, told a large gathering of supporters that several measures are being implemented to improve safety.

Streetlights, he said to much applause, will be in every community at regular intervals along streets and roadways.

Additionally, the ‘Safe City’ programme in the capital city Georgetown will be extended across the country.

“We are expanding the Safe City programme to the ‘Safe Country’ programme where in all our communities we will have cameras to assist in the safety of our people and the safety of our communities,” President Ali said.

In November 2021, the President first talked about plans to expand the ‘Safe City’ programme countrywide.

Aside from these measures meant to improve safety and security, the President Ali told the Dundee residents that the government wants to continue supporting people by providing them with houselots, scholarships and jobs.

He also assured him of the government’s commitment to building new hospitals and health facilities in the region as part of a nationwide push to develop the healthcare sector and make specialised services more accessible to people in all regions.

The President’s address to the community is part of engagements being hosted all across the country ahead of Monday’s Local Government Elections.
