Taxi driver robbed of $6M in jewellery
Police are on the hunt for a lone bandit who robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint of some $6 million in jewellery on Sunday night at West Indian Housing Scheme, Bartica.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred between 20:20 hrs and 20:30 hrs just as 43-year-old Thakoor Harryram arrived home with his son and a female friend.
According to the Police report, as Harryram was ascending his stairs, the masked suspect approached and held him at gunpoint.
“The suspect told Harryram that someone sent him to kill him but he would not. He ordered Harryram to take off and hand over his jewellery,” the report noted.
The victim complied and handed over three gold chains with six gold nuggets, one gold band, one gold ring, one diamond ring and one Samsung cellular phone — all at an estimated total value of six million dollars.
The suspect then jumped over the fence and escaped on foot through some vegetation aback the yard. The area was checked for the suspect who is yet to be apprehended.
