Archibald blazes to new 100m national record at Senior Championships
More so, CARIFTA Games standout and World Juniors bound Malachi Austin became the new 400m champion as he clocked 47.70 seconds in a dominant win. Simeon Adams (48.90s) and Lennox Douglas (49.09s) rounded off the top three.
Olympian Aliyah Abrams also made light work of the field in the 400m with a time of 52.01 seconds, winning ahead of Kenisha Phillips (52.51s) and Deshana Skette (52.81s) while Tianna Springer was fourth in 53.73s.
Attoya Harvey won the 1,500m in a time of 5:09.14s followed by Alika Blucher 5:28.20s and Delicia Tinnis (6:17.28s) while Matthew Gordon (4:06.17s) copped the male title ahead of Guyana Defence Force duo of Devaun Barrington (4:07.30s) and Marlon Nicholson (4:11.20s).
Harvey’s triumphant day continued as she won the 5,000m in 20:25.89s, way ahead of Donnel Fraser (21:12.61s) and Jelesa Wright (21:42.29s.).
In the 10,000m, Police Progressive Youth Club took the top two spots compliments of Royston Fordyce (34.45.41s) and Cleveland Thomas (34.48.29s), while Odida Parkinson of the Guyana Defence Force got third in 36:01.76s.
Additionally, GDF out-sprinted Police to win both of the 4x100m relays.
In the field events, Leslain Baird was nowhere close to his season best of 76.16m as he won the men’s javelin with a best of 70.24m, followed by Tremaine Beckles (60.54m) and Jemaine Simmons (58.87m) for clean sweep by GDF.
Mark Jhalu (1.96m) got the better Yohance Bourne (1.93m) and Melon Lowenfield (1.90m) for the High Jump title, while Natrena Hooper (12.05m) got the triple jump crown ahead of Leoni Adams (11.90m) and Amrist Hector (11.18m).
