Body found at Lake Capoey
Police last evening (Friday, May 1, 2026) discovered the body of a male at Capoey Lake, Essequibo Coast.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks received a report at around 18:10h and visited the location where the body of the unidentified male of mixed ancestry was observed lying face up and motionless on the bank of the lake.
The body was partially submerged in water and clad in black underwear. It was examined, and a tattoo bearing the word “ANIMAL,” along with the image of a jaguar, was seen on the upper left arm.
The body was removed from the scene and escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was examined and certified dead by a doctor on duty. It was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
