Teenager among two charged for murder of Vreed-en-Hoop handyman

handyman Wafad Wahab.

Magistrate Faith McGusty read the joint charge to Ronaldo Warnauth, 21, of Lot 40 Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and the teenager of Phoenix Park Squatting Area, WBD at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

The duo are accused of murdering Wahab called Ricky, 45 of Harlem, WCD on Saturday, April 29 at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.

They were not required to plead to the indictable charge and were remanded to prison.

The case was adjourned to May 29 for report and disclosure.

Wahab died moments after going to see his aunt who was visiting from the United States and staying at a house at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD.

The incident occurred at about 18:50 hrs in the vicinity of Strikey’s Bar.

Police Headquarters had reported that Wahab went to visit his aunt, Kumarie, but when she saw that he was under the influence of alcohol, she reportedly told him that she did not like seeing him in that condition.

She advised him to go home, relax, and return the following day to see her. Wahab left and walked east along New Road, the Police said.

Wahab was attacked by the suspects in the vicinity of Strikey’s Bar.

An eyewitness said the suspects rode off on bicycles in a northern direction into Evergreen Street and escaped.

After the attack, Wahab got up and staggered into Strikey’s bar, where the proprietor heard a customer shouting:  “Watch this man bleeding hay, boy”.

The proprietor immediately called the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, and a Police vehicle with ranks arrived within minutes. The Police took Wahab’s shirt and tied his right hand and placed him into the vehicle and drove off to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body bore a wound to the left shoulder, one to the lower left back, close to the elbow, and one to the right side (ribs area), among other injuries.
