20 died in road accidents in last two weeks

four people perished on Saturday in a two-vehicle collision at De Hoop, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The two other persons were the drivers of both vehicles – Kellon Jones and Chris Gonsalves.

The News Room understands that Rudder and his daughter were returning home from an award ceremony hosted by the Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) on Saturday. The girl was awarded by the company for her outstanding performance at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). Her father worked for Guyoil while she was attending President’s College.

On Saturday morning, 51-year-old Andrew Ali, a motorcyclist died after he collided with a truck along the Cornelia Ida Public Road on the West Coast of Demerara.

Another motorcyclist died on September 7 after he reportedly failed to adhere to a stop light and crashed into a car. He has been identified as Lloyd Britton called “Tommy Lee”. The accident occurred at the intersection of North Road and Camp Street in Georgetown.

On September 5, an accident on the Zealand Public Road, Mahaicony, ECD claimed the life of 71-year-old Beersain Udho, a motorcyclist of Huntley, Mahaicony.

Also on September 5, another motorcyclist died after he collided with a truck on the Kendall Public Road in East Berbice. Ajay Ramchan, 43, died at the scene after his motorcyclist burst into flames as a result of the collision.

Abdool Mohamed, 73, died on September 3 after he was allegedly struck by a motor car on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Police said at the time, Mohamed was riding an electric cycle.

An errant taxi driver who failed to adhere to the stop signal at the intersection of Nelson Mandela Avenue and Cemetery Road on September 1 crashed into a motorcyclist, 33-year-old Martin Samuels, killing him.

The taxi driver identified as 52-year-old Lloyd McKenzie was arrested and later released on $300,000 bail after he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

A young motorcyclist, 20-year-old Avishkar Ishmael of Tain, Corentyne, Berbice, succumbed to injuries he sustained in an accident on August 31 along the Rose Hall Town access road, Berbice.

A two-vehicle collision on August 30 along Dennis Street, Sophia, Georgetown, also resulted in the death of 10-month-old Zainad Boyer.

According to Police Headquarters, the infant’s father, 26-year-old Khary Boyer was reportedly speeding when he collided with a hire car being driven by 28-year-old Keyimo Roopnarine.

The infant and two others – Gerda Boyer-Singh, 38, and a five-year-old were in Khary’s car. Gerda and the baby were in the front passenger seat of the car.

8 died in one night

Eight young persons, all aged 21 and younger, died in three separate road accidents between August 26 and 27.

Four teenagers died in an accident on August 27 after the vehicle they were in collided with a parked truck and a concrete fence at Canal No.2 Polder, WBD. Those dead are; Daveanand Singh, 17, of Providence, East Bank Demerara; Amiesha Jaikaran, 19, of La Grange Old Road, WBD; Divyanie Narine, 18, of Kitty, Georgetown; and Daniel Tirbeni, 19, of La Grange.

Singh was the driver of the car and was reportedly speeding.

On August 26 at the Unity Public Road, Mahaica, ECD, another three young persons died.  They are 21-year-old Elisha Pellew of Unity, his pillion rider, Raymond Rose, also 21 of Supply, Mahaica, and 19-year-old Shawn Persaud.

Finally, 19-year-old Rahul Thakoor of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice died after an accident between two motorcyclists on the No.11 Public Road, East Berbice just after midnight on August 26.
