The division with the second highest cases was Region 4C with 827 followed by Region 6 with 597 cases.

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday recorded the highest number of cases.

“Speeding tickets issued amounted to 838. Monday alone had 218 such cases,” the Police Force said.

The Traffic Department emphasised that speeding continues to be the major contributing factor to accidents, particularly in the instances where lives were lost.

Another factor to the road accidents is driving under the influence.

“37 DUI cases were made for the period with Region 3 recording 17 and Region 4C 11 of this amount,” the Traffic department noted.

In an effort to promote the safe usage of the roadway, the traffic department said a series of sensitisation prorgammes are being held in collaboration with stakeholders.

Educational sessions are also conducted at bars and schools.

The Traffic department is calling on all road users to comply with the rules of the road and to observe the five Cs.
