US$75M contract inked for upgrades to Good Success to Timehri road

In his remarks, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill reminded the contractor that they are expected to deliver a “high quality” job within the required timeline.

“Our approach is getting the best contractor in place and getting the skills at a higher supervisory level while we have our own in-house team that we continue to build so that we can be able to do several things at one time.

“This is major for us as a government. Time delays we don’t have an appreciation for it,” Edghill said.

To ease traffic congestion, Edghill said he also plans to engage the contractor to work through the nights.

“What can be done at night, let’s get it done at nights. Guyana must adjust to the culture of night work,” he said.

In pointing out the importance of the daily use of the East Bank corridor and the link its forms between regions 8, 9 and 10, Edghill said a bypass roadway has already been built through Jimbo bridge to accommodate traffic during the construction period.

“Construction of this road, while it will bring improvement overall and it fits into our overall plan because with this road that is being developed we will also have to link it with the Linden Soesdyke highway, this is directly connected to the work that is going on the Wismar bridge…and the other bridges that we being built, Edghill explained.

In brief remarks, Chief of Operations IDB Guyana, Ivan Gaviria expressed the bank is excited to extend its developmental partnership with the Government of Guyana.

“We are very excited in extending our partnership in developing climate resilient road infrastructure,” Gaviria said.

The rehabilitation of the Good Success to Timehri roadway will see an upgrade 23.7 kilometers upgraded two-lane road, increase safety features including widening shoulders catering for pedal cyclists and pedestrians and signage, concrete drainage and the installation of LED street lights.
