One month later, wife still seeking answers in Sergeant’s shooting death

Alex Vaughn was shot and killed by a fellow police, charges are yet to be been laid. The delay has given rise to new fears among relatives that justice delayed may amount to justice denied.

“I don’t know if anything will ever come out of it with how things going right now. No updates, no nothing on whatever they do and is almost a month, Vaughn’s widow, Jonnel Singh related.

During a telephone interview with the News Room on Thursday, Singh said she is only updated on the case through reports in the media.

And though she is eager for answers, Singh claims no one has contacted her about the case.

‘The last thing I hear about this incident is that the matter gone to DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) for further investigation… I saw it on the news.

“Nobody ain’t calling me to tell me nothing concerning to whatever transpire. What they doing with this boy that shot my husband? Nobody ain’t calling me and telling me nothing,” Singh said.

Despite her wariness, Vaughn’s widow remains hopeful that justice will prevail.

“I am calling for justice for him. They have to provide justice for him because things like these does happen and all they does do is sweep it under the carpet,” Singh told the News Room.

Police Sergeant Alex Vaughn

Sergeant Vaughn was shot and killed by one of his colleagues, a Police Constable, on March 12 at Karrau, Region Seven.

On March 28, the Guyana Police Force indicated the probe into the fatal shooting was complete and the file was sent for advice.

However, on April 02, the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said it is yet to receive the file.

To date, there has been no further update on the status of the file.

Vaughn, who was the officer-in-charge of the Saxacalli Police Outpost in Region Seven was part of a joint services operation pursuing now dead prison escapee, Akeem Wong.

Reports reaching the News Room indicate that the Police Constable arrived at the area on a tractor as part of a backup team.

Upon arrival, the Constable claimed that his weapon was accidentally fired as he disembarked the tractor, fatally wounding Vaughn.

The constable was placed under close arrest pending the outcome of the investigation.
