The New Year in South Florida began on a powerful and uplifting note as the ‘Stay Strong Jamaica’ Hurricane Relief Concert transformed Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, into a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and community. Hosted inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino complex, the January 2, 2026 benefit concert brought together reggae and dancehall royalty, members of the Jamaican diaspora, and supporters from across the region in a collective show of solidarity with Jamaica following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica in October 2025 as a Category 5 storm, packing sustained winds of over 180 mph and torrential rainfall that battered coastal towns and inland communities. The hurricane caused widespread damage to hospitals, police stations, and schools, particularly in Westmoreland, and displaced more than 280,000 people from their homes. Against this backdrop, the ‘Stay Strong Jamaica’ concert served as both an extraordinary musical showcase and a meaningful effort to support ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts after one of the strongest hurricanes ever to strike the island.

Young Stars Set the Tone

The ‘Stay Strong Jamaica’ benefit concert focused on themes of loss, resilience, and rebuilding. Hosted by Suzette Speaks, the show began just after 8:00 p.m. with performances moving fluidly between classic reggae and contemporary dancehall.

Visions Band opened the night, warming up the packed venue with familiar reggae favourites. Ed Robinson followed with a smooth and polished set, while Chalice delivered a solid performance of old-school reggae classics. Brick & Lace brought a burst of energy to the stage, engaging the audience with a lively set highlighted by their early-2000s hit Love Is Wicked.

Dancehall artist Teejay kept the momentum high, closing his performance with the global hit Drift, which sent the crowd into a frenzy. Etana delivered a strong, soulful set, while I-Octane brought his trademark intensity to the stage. One of the night’s standout moments came during I-Octane’s performance when he invited his daughter, Nini, on stage, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Reggae Royalty Took the Night

As the evening progressed, reggae veterans and icons took centre stage, anchoring the concert in legacy and timeless sound. Mykal Rose delivered a powerful set spanning decades, while Inner Circle had the audience on their feet, waving Jamaican flags and singing along to their iconic catalogue. Wayne Wonder brought waves of nostalgia with crowd favourites including No Letting Go and Saddest Day of My Life.

One of the most joyful moments of the night belonged to Marcia Griffiths, who turned Hard Rock Live into a massive dance floor during Electric Slide. Joined on stage by her family, she drew the audience into the aisles, transforming the venue into a shared celebration of music and movement. Julian and Ky-Mani Marley followed with a heartfelt tribute to their father’s legacy through classics such as Three Little Birds and One Love.

Shaggy, true to form, brought the concert to a celebratory close. The global superstar had the crowd fully engaged as he delivered a high-energy set that ended the night on an undeniable high.

A Successful Night for a Worthy Cause

The ‘Stay Strong Jamaica’ Hurricane Relief Concert proved to be an epic night of music, unity, and purpose. The event was projected to have raised approximately $400,000 USD in support of Jamaica’s ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts. Attendance reflected the wide reach of the cause, with patrons from all walks of life and across generations coming together in solidarity.

Among the notable attendees were Bo Guidry, President of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood; Jamaican government ministers including the Hon. Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and Daryl Vaz; and key diaspora representatives such as Consul General Oliver Mair. The audience also included city officials, members of the VP Records family, Grammy Award-winning artists, and respected industry veterans and executives from across the reggae and entertainment world.

More than just a concert, ‘Stay Strong Jamaica’ stood as a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the unifying power of music in times of crisis. It was a night that honoured Jamaica’s resilience while offering hope and tangible support for the road ahead.
