Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony has denied claims that he authorised the presence of a woman at the post-mortem examination of Adriana Younge, which was conducted last Monday at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

In a statement posted to his official Facebook page, Dr Anthony addressed an audio recording circulating online in which a female voice alleges that she was sent by the Minister to attend the post-mortem. The Minister has since identified the voice as belonging to Tiana Serena Lewis-King, a nursing assistant employed by the Ministry of Health and currently working at the GPHC.

Dr Anthony categorically denied any association with the woman.

“As far as I am aware, I do not know this person. I have never met this person, and have never spoken to this person,” he said. “Therefore, assuming she was present, she was not there upon my instructions or on my behalf.”

The Minister also highlighted that the post-mortem procedure had been videotaped, as is standard protocol. In addition, a comprehensive log of all individuals present and the actions undertaken during the examination was compiled. According to Dr Anthony, the name of the individual in question does not appear in the official record.

The Guyana Police Force, which was responsible for documenting the examination on video, has also reviewed the footage and confirmed that Lewis-King does not appear in it.

“The Guyana Police Force is investigating this matter,” Dr Anthony noted.

He further stated that he is consulting with legal counsel regarding potential legal action against Lewis-King, whom he accuses of attempting to maliciously damage his professional and personal reputation.
