GOA, Women in Sport Commission to host Mini Multi-Sport Fun Day
The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), in collaboration with the Women in Sport Commission, will host a Mini Multi-Sport Fun Day in celebration of International Women’s Day on Saturday (March 7) at the National Racquet Centre from 15:00h to 18:00h.
The initiative is expected to bring together approximately 250 women and girls from across Guyana’s sporting community for an afternoon dedicated to participation, unity, empowerment and celebration through sport.
The programme will feature mini exhibitions, friendly competitions, interactive discussions, and engaging activities within respective disciplines, allowing participants to experience and enjoy multiple sports beyond their primary discipline.
Light refreshments will also be provided, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment for athletes, newcomers and supporters alike.
President of the GOA Godfrey Munroe emphasised the importance of initiatives that expand opportunities for women and girls in sport.
“International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder that sport can be a catalyst for empowerment, leadership, and social change. Through this Mini Multi-Sport Fun Day, we are creating a space where women and girls can explore different disciplines, build confidence, and strengthen the bonds within our sporting community. The Guyana Olympic Association remains fully committed to advancing opportunities for women in sport and celebrating their achievements at every level.”
Chair of the Women in Sport Commission, Nicolette Fernandes, together with Vice-Chair Ashley Khalil and members Denise Jeffrey, Ayanna Watson and Dacia Cummings, have been actively coordinating and planning the event in collaboration with the GOA.
Providing an update following a final review of preparations, GOA Vice-President Cristy Campbell reported that all logistical arrangements are on track for the activities, ensuring a well-organised and engaging experience for participants and spectators.
The event will showcase multiple sporting disciplines, highlighting the diversity and strength of women’s participation in sport across Guyana, including but not limited to, Athletics (Track and Field), Squash, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, Volleyball, Archery, Basketball and a Fitness Challenge.
Each of these sports will be represented by female participants, who will take part in demonstrations and friendly competitions designed to encourage learning, participation and fun.
In addition, the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will field 50 women and girls in a special one-mile run, while 10 participants from other sporting associations, including cricket, football, chess, cycling, bodybuilding and fitness, and netball, will also be invited to take part in the celebration.
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 in Guyana, the event reflects the diverse and vibrant sporting landscape of Guyana.
By bringing together athletes from multiple disciplines in a single space, the Mini Multi-Sport Fun Day aims to inspire new sporting interests, strengthen camaraderie among athletes, and highlight the critical role women and girls play in the development of sport in Guyana.
