Shivbarran, Pereira and Kalpoo lead victory charge in GCA U-17 competition
Malteenoes, Georgetown Cricket Club and Everest emerged with victories on Sunday when the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Enline Security Logistics Under-17, 50-over competition continued in the city.
At Malteenoes, a superb 133 from opener Shane Shivbarran was the foundation of the home team’s commanding 161-run win over GT XI after they posted 262-8, the highest total of the day.

Next door at the Transport Ground, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pulled off a nail-biting seven-run win over the home side in a low-scoring thriller.
GCC skipper Ravaldo Pereira topscored with 35 in his team’s 136 and then returned with the ball to claim 3-18, bowling in tandem with fellow off-spinner Shahid Ramzan, who claimed the prized scalp of West Indies Under-19 player Shamar Apple to trigger a batting collapse.
Transport seemed well on course for victory with opener Emmanuel Lewis dominating an opening stand of 76 in 6.4 overs with Mickel Johnson, before the game made a dramatic turn.
Over at the Queen’s College Ground, Vinesh Kalpoo slammed 80 off 76 balls (5x4s, 7x6s) in Everest’s winning total of 216. He then returned to take 3-21 as Queen’s College responded with 67 all out.

In a hotly-contested affair, Transport romped to an opening stand of 76 in 6.4 overs in pursuit of 137 against GCC, with national player Lewis blazing to 64 off 28 (9x4s, 3x6s).
After his dismissal, bowled by left-arm seamer Vijay Kalpu, the tempo dropped, but Transport remained in control at 109-3 in the 12th over with West Indies Under-19 player Shamar Apple growing in confidence.

However, in a dramatic turn of event Transport lost their last seven wickets for just 20 runs to fall seven runs short. National Under-15 all-rounder Shahid Ramzan sparked the collapse by having Apple caught on the long-on boundary for 22 off 21 (2x4s, 1×6).
Thereafter, wickets tumbled with skipper and off-spinner Ravaldo Pereira tightening the screws, bowling in tandem with Ramzan. Pereira ended with 3-18 off seven overs, while Ramzan had 2-10 off 6.1 overs.
