A 19-year-old tragically lost his life after reportedly losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a stationary truck in Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

The deceased has been identified as Nathaniel Busgith, affectionately known as “Joel,”  unemployed, of Lot 38, Number 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice.

The News Room was informed that Busgith was operating motor vehicle PAP 1126 heading northward on the southern lane of the Number 72 Public Road when he allegedly lost control and collided with motor lorry GAF 5822, which was parked on the western lane.

According to the information gathered Busgith was taken from the severely damaged vehicle by public-spirited citizens and was subsequently transported to the Number 75 Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

A relative of the deceased, Imran Ally, informed the News Room that while at the hospital, he was notified by a teacher that another vehicle with a trade plate had turned in front of Busgith’s vehicle. To avoid a collision, Busgith swerved, resulting in his vehicle crashing into the truck.

The mother, Basmattie McDonald, stated that her son departed from home at approximately 07:00 hours to conduct business. She further stated that at around 07:55 hours, a neighbor contacted her to inform her of the incident.

McDonald expressed that she and other relatives immediately proceeded to the hospital. She confirmed that Busgith passed away before any medical intervention could be performed.

A postmortem examination is scheduled to be conducted shortly to ascertain the cause of death.

“He was never a bad person. He was a very good child to the community. I still cannot believe that he has gone,” Ms. McDonald stated.

Busgith is survived by his mother, father, three siblings, along with other relatives and friends.
