Pour ce 1er avril, Port-au-Prince et ses zones environnantes ont connu une journée de tension. Les bandits armés sont revenus à la charge et ont fait chanter la poudre dans plusieurs endroits de la capitale dont Champs-de Mars, Bas Delmas.
Jusqu’où veulent arriver les bandits armés ? Cette question se pose et s’impose, compte tenu du fait que les malfrats ne cessent de montrer leurs muscles en multipliant leurs actes barbares dans la capitale haïtienne. Hier lundi 1er avril, les habitants de la capitale ont débuté le mois d’avril sous la panique totale des gangs armés qui ont encore fait parler la poudre à Port-au-prince.
Tout a commencé dans la matinée dans les périmètres du Champ-de-Mars à quelques encablures du Palais National. Les malfrats qui avaient déjà investi plusieurs quartiers de l’aire du Champs-de-Mars ont créé la panique. Les petits détaillants qui tentaient de joindre les deux bouts dans la zone ont dû prendre la poudre d’escampette. Il était bruit que ces bandits armés voulaient s’accaparer du Palais présidentiel. Mais, ils ont buté sur des agents des forces de l’ordre qui ont riposté pour les repousser. Bilan : un véhicule blindé de l’Unité de Sécurité Générale du Palais National (USGPN) a été incendié par les bandits à une faible distance de l’Hôpital Général.
Dans plusieurs autres endroits de la capitale dont Route de Frères, Delmas 24, 19 et Delmas 30, les bandits étaient aussi en action. Fritz Emile, est le nom d’un citoyen qui a rendu l’âme après avoir été atteint à la tête d’une balle perdue au niveau de Delmas 30.
Le Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial n’a pas été épargné de la fureur des gangs. Vieux de plus de 150 ans, cet établissement qui est l’une des écoles de référence en Haïti a été victime de l’assaut des bandits sans foi ni loi lundi après-midi. Les malfrats ont fait irruption dans l’établissement et ont incendié environ quatre véhicules qui étaient garés sur la cour, selon Marie Yolène Gilles de la FJKL. Poussant à bout de leur cruauté, ils ont vandalisé la bibliothèque des Pères spiritains, l’un des plus grands espaces de Savoir du pays. Ils ont également saccagé la salle informatique. Très tard dans la soirée, les quatre prêtes et des cuisinières qui étaient coincés dans l’espace, ont pu être évacués.
Lors de cette cette nouvelle démonstration des gangs armés à Port-au-Prince , ils s’en sont pris également au plus grand centre hospitalier du pays communément appelé l’hôpital général. Désormais, l’hôpital de l’Université d’État d’Haïti est sous le plein contrôle des gangs armés. Dans la foulée , le Directeur Général de l’hôpital, Dr Jude Milcé, avait pourtant annoncé la reprise des activités médicales à l’hôpital pour le 1er avril.

The Ministry of Home Affairs hereby notifies the public that both the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force are actively engaged in combating a large wildfire in the Perseverance/Providence vicinity and along the Demerara River below the Sand Hill area. These blazes have led to a considerable amount of smoke enveloping these areas and nearby communities.
In light of the wildfire’s impact, residents are strongly advised to prioritize their safety and well-being by taking precautionary measures against associated health risks stemming from smoke inhalation. To this end, the Ministry of Home Affairs offers the following guidelines for public safety:
Stay indoors: Whenever feasible, individuals are urged to remain indoors and keep all windows and doors shut to minimize exposure to smoke.
Limit outdoor activities: If outdoor ventures are unavoidable, wear a mask to mitigate inhalation risks.
Utilize air filtration: Employ air conditioning systems to aid in filtering indoor air quality.
Stay informed: Stay abreast of the latest updates and advisories from the Guyana Fire Service and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Plan alternative routes: If travel is necessary, consider alternate routes to circumvent smoke-laden areas and thoroughfares.
Exercise caution while driving: Motorists navigating through affected regions should exercise extreme vigilance due to diminished visibility caused by smoke. Use hazard lights or high beams and be mindful of trucks and pedestrians.
Protect vulnerable groups: Take additional precautions to safeguard vulnerable demographics, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory ailments.
The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasizes the importance of exercising extreme caution on the roads. Motorists are implored to reduce speeds and utilize high and low beams or hazard lights to ensure safe navigation through affected areas.
Residents are strongly encouraged to dial 912 to promptly report any occurrences of grass and wildfires within their community.
Days after parcels of cocaine were discovered in a “go fast”, the two occupants were on Tuesday charged for the 536 kilograms bust and remanded to prison.
Jose Felix Lindore and Javier Perez appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. The charge was read to them by Magistrate Alisha George.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the offence and were remanded to prison. The case was adjourned to May 10, 2024.
The items found on the vessel.Lindore and Perez were arrested on last Friday after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard intercepted their boat during a joint operation at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
Upon searching the boat, a large quantity of narcotics along with a quantity of fuel and other items were discovered and the men were arrested.
The cocaine amounted to 536 kilos or 1,181pounds, with a street value of US$2.6million.

Two men, Shammy Edwards and Ken Summer, were arrested over the weekend following the discovery of almost six kilograms of cannabis, concealed in a freezer.
The duo was jointly charged with the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on Tuesday.
The duo appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
Edwards pleaded guilty to the charge. He was released on his own recognizance pending a probation report and sentencing.
Summer denied the allegation. He was granted $200,000 bail.
Edwards and Summer were arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Saturday.
A search was conducted at a Fort Ordnance village, East Berbice-Corentyne residence and several bulky parcels of cannabis were found concealed in a freezer.
Edwards and Summer, who both reside at the house were arrested and taken to CANU headquarters.
The cannabis was weighed and amounted to 5.9kg. It carries a street value of approximately $1.8 million.
Fruta Conquerors FC secured a 5-0 victory over Pakuri Jaguars FC in St Cuthbert’s Mission on March 24.

Two days later on March 26, the Guyana Police Force FC cruised to a commanding 15-0 victory over Fruta Conquerors FC at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Eight players found the net to propel their team to victory on March 26, spearheaded by Lakeisha Williams who opened the scoring in the 8th minute and added two more goals in the 12th and 33rd minutes.
However, stealing the spotlight was Akeelah Vancooten, delivering an outstanding performance with five goals in the 16th, 22nd, 43rd, 49th and 54th minutes.
Additional contributions were made by teammates Latoya Williams in the 38th and 67th minutes; Shontel Greene scored a crucial goal in the 45th minute, while Tiandi Smith added to the tally with a goal in the 69th minute.
This was followed by Sasha James’ strike finding the net in the 81st minute. Jenelle Edmonston and Collette Rutherford wrapped up the scoring with goals in the 83rd and 87th minutes respectively.
The Women’s League Division has a diverse range of players, including past champions, national players and aspiring talents.
It serves as a platform for players to exhibit their abilities, vying for selection in national team programmes, pursue scholarships, and even secure contracts with clubs beyond the borders of Guyana.
The competition will continue on April 6 with the Guyana Defence Force FC and Fruta Conquerors FC clashing from 18:30h.

The second half started with Sheldon Holder from Slingerz FC swiftly finding the back of the net twice in 52nd and 56th minutes, substantially extending his team’s lead. Curtez Kellman then sealed the deal with the final goal of the night in the 85th minute.
The two matches marked the end of last month’s action for the 10 Elite clubs, including Guyana Police Force FC, Monedderlust FC, Ann’s Grove United FC, Den Amstel FC, Santos FC, and Buxton United FC.
To kick off the April fixtures, Monedderlust FC will go head-to-head with Den Amstel from 18:30h, followed by Santos FC taking on Police FC from 21:00h on April 2 at the National Training Centre. The league started on February 25, with a total of 23 matches played up to date.
The top 10 clubs are competing for first-place cash prize of G$2,000,000, with cash rewards of G$1,200,000, G$800,000, and G$500,000 up for grabs for the second, third and fourth positions, respectively.
