Au cœur de la capitale d’Haïti, une crise de l’eau sévère frappe la population, exacerbée par des activités paralysantes et un gouvernement en difficulté. Dans divers quartiers de la capitale, y compris la plaine, Delmas et Cité Soleil, les habitants font face à des pénuries d’eau traitée, mettant en péril leur santé et leur bien-être. Cette crise est le résultat de plusieurs facteurs convergents qui ont amplifié les difficultés déjà existantes dans un pays confronté à de nombreux défis socio-économiques.
La situation est devenue critique, avec les habitants appelant à l’aide des autorités de la DINEPA pour obtenir une solution à cette crise croissante.
Malheureusement, la réponse du gouvernement semble insuffisante, laissant la population dans une situation désespérée. Les infrastructures d’eau et d’assainissement sont souvent dépassées et mal entretenues, ce qui rend encore plus difficile la fourniture d’eau potable aux habitants.
Les conséquences de cette crise sont dévastatrices. Police ranks on patrol Region Seven Wednesday night stumbled on a make-shift mining camp along the trail at Torroparau backdam, Lower Puruni River.
The ranks, who were on an A.T.V, said as they approached the camp, they saw a male running away. The ranks gave chase but were unable to apprehend him.
The ranks searched a hammock tied under the camp and found a Taurus Pistol and one magazine with seven 9mm live rounds.
The ranks also observed a bulky plastic bag which, when opened, contained 147 small transparent Ziplock plastic bags with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The ranks took possession of the firearm, ammunition and narcotics. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the identity of the person who fled the camp.
Bertram Willie, a 60-year-old Miner who resided at Wisrock New Housing Scheme, Linden died on Wednesday during a mining accident at Cowing Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River in Region #7.
Investigations indicate that Willie was the registered owner of a four-inch water dredge operation at the location.
Trevor Benn, a 50-year-old miner of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, alleged Willie was submerged in the Mazaruni River extracting gravel when he observed that a piece of land caved into the river.
Thereafter, Benn said he called out to Willie but did not get a response.
He immediately raised an alarm and with the assistance of other miners nearby, he went into the river searching for Willie, who was found pinned down underwater by a tree stump.
Benn said he managed to free Willie whose body, by this time, was motionless. The body later resurfaced and was fished out of the River.
The body was taken to the Imbaimadai Health Post under police guard and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
