Agri Heavy Machinery Inc., a subsidiary of Agri Parts Machinery and Services, has joined forces with the ENet Caribbean Clash of Champions as a sponsor of the November 4-5 race meet at the South Dakota Circuit.

Agri Heavy Machinery Inc. is the local dealer for the trusted and well-respected KOBELCO excavators out of Japan. The company also carries the full line of KOBELCO spare parts.

Founded in 2022, Agri Heavy Machinery Inc. falls under the Agri Parts Machinery and Services family, which has been in business for over 30 years.

According to Samaroo, the airport currently has 85 scheduled incoming flights per week.

Over the past year, Guyana welcomed direct flights from Canada Jetlines, British Airways, and Sky Cana, among others. There were also inaugurated landings by Qatar Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.

These achievements have since allowed the airport to process over 545,000 passengers as of last month which reflects a 13 per cent increase.

Meanwhile, the Eugene F. Correia International Airport currently has 45 scheduled international flights per week, which is also expected to increase to 52 by the end of the year.

The airport has recorded an average of 139 daily landings and take-offs to date. These include an average of 12 international landings and 20 offshore flights.

The influx of the international arrival rate is due to Guyana becoming one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with many booming sectors and the vast development of its tourism industry. Guyana held a technical consultation with UN Security Council members on Friday as it prepares to assume its non-permanent seat on the council, the premier body for maintaining international peace and security.

Foreign Secretary Persaud emphasised the privilege of serving on the council and Guyana’s commitment to international law and security, essential to achieving Agenda 2030. He also expressed his anticipation of ongoing dialogue with countries like the US.

“We are properly and adequately preparing for our seat on the council, which we don’t only view as a privilege but also one of deep responsibility, a responsibility that we take very seriously as a country but also representing many others who are looking to us for quality guidance and leadership,” he stated

Guyana will be promoting its identified priorities on the council which are aligned with its national priorities including climate, food, and energy security, as well as Venezuela’s existential threat to the country’s sovereignty.

“Going forward in February when we will be chairing the council or assume the presidency, one of our signature events will certainly be framed around that theme itself too, but looking at different dynamics and other dimensions in that regard,” Mr. Persaud added.

The foreign secretary expressed that the technical consultation will allow Guyana’s team to better understand US priorities on the council and to identify areas for further discussions at an upcoming policy dialogue in Washington.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Mission (ag) at the US Embassy, Rhonda Slusher described Guyana as a crucial bilateral partner, noting that the US looks forward to Guyana’s contributions to the security council.

“We recognise that Guyana is emerging as a leader on the world stage and is in the midst of an economic transformation. We stand with you in friendship and partnership and look forward to collaborating with you on the vital work of advancing international peace and security on the UN Security Council. Together we will work to confront the myriad crises including food and climate security, to achieve shared prosperity, inclusive growth, and human progress,” she expressed.

Among those present were Council Senior Advisor, Brian Convoy, Political-Economic Section Chief Mariyam Cementwala, along with Deputy Political Councillor at the US Mission to New York Trina Saha, and a team from the foreign affairs ministry. During its tenure on the Council, Guyana will focus on five key areas in keeping with the theme: “Partnering for Peace and Prosperity.”

On 6 June 2023, Guyana was elected for the third time as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period January 2024- December 2025.

Guyana’s priority areas for the Security Council include climate change, food insecurity, conflict, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, women, peace and security, children in armed conflict, and youth, peace and security. Guyana will also preside over the Security Council in February 2024.

The UNSC is composed of 15 countries, five of which – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States – are permanent members.

The 10 non-permanent members are elected by the General Assembly, which comprises all 193 UN member states and is in line with geographical distribution by region.

“It is a pre-Diwali event and the intention is to create a welcoming and attractive atmosphere through lights, while at the same time being able to stay true to the religious aspects of Diwali. So, the cultural presentations will also be in keeping with the observance of the festival,” Subhan said.

He added that there will be live performances by artistes from Guyana and Suriname.

Additionally, the festivity will see a section being designated for the hosting of spiritual services and activities and stalls with traditional Indian cuisines, and clothing among other Diwali-related activities.

“This event is of course open free to the public and we do expect His Excellency to deliver opening remarks on the opening night,” the coordinator stated.

Omeshwar Siriskishun, also on the planning committee, explained that there will be a two-hour programme each night to accommodate people who may not be able to attend on other nights.

According to him, over 14 exhibitors are expected to be a part of the celebration and it will see some 73 mandirs from within the region participating in various cultural activities.

He further noted that preparation is also moving apace to completely transform the park into a colorfully lit venue.

Siriskishun emphasised that the event is more than just a celebration of Diwali; it is a celebration of all Guyanese, regardless of their religious background. “This is an initiative that is being done through a national organising committee where we try to further promote peace, bring Guyanese together, and of course to let the young people get involved in their various religious activities,” he explained.

President Ali listening to residents’ concerns

In Kingston, the Ministry of Public Works will form a group of residents to clean all the alleyways and drainage in the area. President Ali also announced that road works in the area will be completed before the end of November.

“We are going to work in the community, the councillors and the ministry will work in putting together a group from the community itself to clear all the alleyways …  ensure they are functional and clean and then we’ll work out with the community itself how we can ensure maintenance,” he relayed.

In Alberttown, residents raised concerns about drainage, street lights, sewage, and police presence. The president also asked Assistant Commissioner of Police Simon McBean to investigate the issue of Alberttown Police Station ranks not being active in their duties.“What we have to do is to take the police out of the stations and get them involved in the community …we’re going to do some aggressive work in this community and have outposts.”

Members of the community will work collectively to clean the alleyways and the drainage in the area as well. Work is expected to commence in the next 12 days, including work on the recreational facility.

“From now to next week Wednesday, persons from the community and the councillors to identify all the resources we have in the community itself and by then we will work out the programme about the work itself,” the president disclosed. (DPI)
