robbery at the Regional Democratic Office in Region Six was shot dead and another captured, it was confirmed that a third suspect was apprehended.

Police Headquarters stated that Superintendent Stanley, who is performing the duty as Commander for Regional Division #6 confirmed that another suspect was captured Wednesday afternoon. That suspect is in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.

The suspect’s name is Lawrence Vanlewyn and he has been described as a “known character” who has had several brushes with the law.

He was slated to appear in Court today in Berbice concerning an armed robbery charge.

Police are pursuing the other suspects as investigations continue.

Earlier Wednesday, three suspects escaped Police after there was a shootout. One man was shot dead while Tarrique Pollard called ‘Tari’, a 33-year-old taxi driver from Mahicony, East Coast Demerara, was apprehended.

Altogether, the five persons are suspects in the robbery at the RDC building. Reports are that an undisclosed amount of cash was carted off with.

This was confirmed by Police Headquarters, which said that the men were among ten persons who were onboard the metal boat which was transporting 14 drums of diesel.

The incident occurred around 18:30hrs at Kurutuku Village, Upper Cuyuni River.

According to a Police report, Musa and six of his co-workers were consuming alcohol at Kurutuku Village when they stopped the boat and asked for a drop to their mining camp situated about twenty minutes away.

The boat was captained by Raul Jarvis of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Police said about ten minutes into their journey, the boat struck a rock, causing it to sink.

As a result, the occupants jumped out of the boat and swam to shore. However, Musa and Jordan were not located.

An alarm was raised and a search party consisting members of the Joint Services was formed.

The men are yet to be located.

Asked for an update on the sidelines of an event on Tuesday, Edghill told the News Room that he engaged the principals of the company. They had to provide a detailed plan on how they will get the works done in keeping with the project deadline.

“The principals of Kallco came and we engaged them or they engaged with us and we made certain agreements. They have engaged Guyanese sub-contractors to specific aspects of the work so that they are multiple things being done at the same time to move the project along,” Edghill said.

“My engineers who are supervising the project have indicated that maybe about 90 plus percent of what they said they will do, they are doing. They had to bring in additional resources from Trinidad in terms of personnel, they had to hire more people here in Guyana, put additional equipment on site,” Edghill added.

According to Edghill, the company also asked to be removed from being a non-performing contractor on the project.

“They have asked for the opportunity to deliver it (the project). They have asked to being removed from being non-performing to performing and they have shown how they intend to do that. We have made it very clear we are not playing with the project. You have a signed contract. Execute it in keeping with the clauses and conditions of the contract,” Edghill declared.

“If they do what they are told and what they agreed to we will get substantial completion by the time the contract date arrive,” he said.

The Conversation Tree to Dennis Street, Georgetown road widening project, which is valued at $1.8 billion, is also being executed by S. Jagmohan Construction and General Supplies.

At the time of the inspection, while 65 percent of the project timeline had already passed, only 25 percent of work was completed.

As such, Edghill had urged the contractors to “pick up pace” so that they can meet the project deadline.

Works on the project include a double-lane carriageway on the reserve south of Delhi Street, the implementation of concrete revetments between the East Coast highway and Railway embankment and the construction of large concrete bridges to establish a connection to Dennis Street.

“There are many countries that have expressed a preference for government-to-government exploration and relationships on this issue.

“India expressed an interest to work government-to-government,” the President said during an Inter-American Dialogue conversation in Washington DC.

He added that Qatar and the Dominican Republic are also countries keen on partnering with Guyana to explore and develop oil blocks offshore.

For months, Guyana’s government has been touting the possibility of awarding blocks directly to bilateral partners. India, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among the countries that have expressed an interest in this arrangement.

In March, Guyana’s Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo explained that government’s decision to award blocks directly would be based on mutual benefits and profit sharing.

Though he didn’t say when Guyana could consider those bilateral partnerships, President Ali highlighted that his government wanted to first auction the existing blocks in an “open and transparent” process.

And he believes it was a “tremendous accomplishment” that Guyana managed to attract eight bids because of prevailing financial conditions.

A total of 14 oil blocks were up for grabs – 11 in shallow water and three in deep water.
