Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer were to build on that momentum taking the score to 101-3 at the halfway stage of the innings and Hope leading the way, racing to his half-century from 26 balls.

However, the partnership was eventually broken by Izharulhaq Naveed – the wrist spinner bowling the destructive Hope for 54. That wicket was quickly followed up by the dismissal of Hetmyer for 26, the left-hander holing out to the deep point boundary.

Those wickets briefly took the momentum out of the innings, but Keemo Paul (25 off 18) and Romario Shepherd (25* off 10) added quick runs at the back end to help the Warriors post an imposing total of 197-7.

The Patriots were never really in the game in their reply as scoreboard pressure told.

Andre Fletcher and Joshua Da Silva fell inside the Powerplay to leave the Patriots 37-2 at the end of six overs.

Patriots captain Evin Lewis played a fine counter attacking innings of 48 from 24 balls to bring the required run rate down to a more manageable total but that scenario did not last long.

Lewis and Sherfane Rutherford fell six balls apart to leave the Patriots 88-4 at the halfway stage.

Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals with Gudakesh Motie the star with the ball as he finished with career-best figures in a spell that included the wicket of Ambati Rayudu.

Melisa Arokium’s boyfriend is among four persons in custody for her murder and that of her eight-year-old son, Anthony.

Those in custody are: the boyfriend, 37-year-old Shailendra Umrao; her brother who lives with her, 33-year-old Serrana Arokium; another brother who made the discovery, 26-year-old Nicholas Arokium and the woman’s neighbour, 38-year-old Deo Naris.

The Police suspect that the 31-year-old self-employed woman and her son were dead for several hours before they were found in a pool of blood at their Rose Hall Town, Corentyne home on Wednesday.

The alleged double-murder occurred between 06:30 hrs and 13:30 hrs on Wednesday.

According to the statement from the Police, investigations indicate that Arokium sustained multiple chop wounds to the back of her neck, one wound to the left waist and one chop wound to the left upper hand.

Anthony’s body was also examined and it revealed that he suffered from several chop wounds to his right side, head, and face.

The bodies were escorted yesterday to the Port Mourant Hospital and certified dead by a doctor on duty. The bodies are at Arokium’s Funeral Home, awaiting post-mortem examinations.

The Police investigations are ongoing.

While he encouraged the participants to take the game seriously, the businessman also reminded them of the importance of investing time and effort into their academic upliftment.

Discipline, Qualander highlighted, must be a key element in their upbringing, adding that cricket teaches this important trait that they must inculcate in every facet of their life.

The CEO added that Queensway Security Inc. will continue to invest in their development by sponsorship future camp.

He also pledged to assist participants who may be in need of gear or any other form of help in their cricketing pursuit.

At the official launch of the camp in early August, Chief Operations Officer of Queensway Security Inc. Lancelot Khan said support of the initiative by the club is one that falls under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Executive member of GCC Jonathan Yearwood hailed the significance of the support from Qualander and his establishment, pointing out that the growth and development of the game and cricketers starts at the club level.

“It is vitally important for us to have sponsorship, and sponsors like Queensway. We really do appreciate that. They have been a tremendous help to get this programme off the ground,” Yearwood said.

During the camp, which is being conducted on weekdays from 09:00h to 13:00h, the youngsters are being exposed to professional coaching in the areas of batting, bowling and fielding, lectures on discipline, game awareness, team building and interaction with senior and junior national players.

Coaching sessions are being supervised by Peter Persaud, Clive Grimmond and Orin Bailey.

The annual summer camp, which resumed last year after a short break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, actually started in the 1980s, with a series of national players at all levels having their grounding in this developmental activity.

Some of those players who went on to play international cricket include Carl Hooper, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Reon King, Leon Johnson and Vishaul Singh.
