No weapon was recovered but the Police Commander said trails of blood were observed in the vicinity of the crime scene but investigators are yet to determine whether it is human or animal blood.

A relative of the woman, Leon Moore, 52, also spoke with reporters at the scene.

“They said she get chop on her body and she neck and the son like he get jook up.

“They have some foul play because she don’t make problem with people so. Every morning the girl does take her son to lesson and me and she does talk when she pass to go out. She nah make problem with people so [I don’t know] how that happen,” Moore said.

He added that the last time he saw Melisa was on Tuesday and recalled that she seemed happy.

He explained that Melisa owned a small grocery shop at the premises; she lived alone with her son while her brother lived in the same yard. The brother claimed he left early on Wednesday to cut cane and returned home at about 11:00 hrs.

Melisa’s mother also lives at the premises but she is currently in the interior where she manages a dredge.

“She always ah smile. Me does tell she like thing don’t bother you…She and she son real good. She like she son bad,” Moore told reporters.

“…We went out to a restrictive tender for this road which is 700 meters and 4.2 meters in width and the tender closed; it went through evaluation in a competitive way and we have selected two contractors to deal with this road,” Minister Indar explained.

He added, “We have split it in half so that the work could be done quickly too…So 350 meters for one lot and the other 350 for the other half.”

According to the Public Works Minister, over 35 roads were also fixed in the community and other neighbouring areas.

“In Foulis, we fix about 20 roads in two weeks…We outdone about 1700 tonnes of asphalt and in Enterprise…we put down about 2000 tonnes of asphalt in two weeks,” he said.

“This area, in the past two months from Foulis, Coldingen, Enterprise and so on I have seen a significant amount of work in these areas,” Indar said.

The project is expected to be completed within the next three months.

“The contractors…have good track record to finish it quickly,” Indar said.

Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony said it is important for doctors to receive the best training possible and as part of efforts to further deepen the cooperation among the two nations, five of the doctors will soon benefit from a post graduate programme offered by China.

“We are going to sign an agreement where we would be sending persons to the University in China so that they can pursue some post Graduate programmes.

“We are sending five persons and hopefully over the years we will be able to expand that,” the Health Minister said.

He is also hopeful that nurses will receive similar training.

Meanwhile, China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan said China and Guyana’s bilateral relations as it relates to healthcare is significant and continues to expand.

The China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation, a Chinese state-owned enterprise commonly referred to as Sinopharm, was selected to construct the six new regional hospitals in Guyana. The medical brigade works at the Linden Hospital, the Georgetown Public Hospital and several health centres.

“With the growing oil and gas sector now Guyana is facing a huge opportunity for economic and social development and the demand for high quality medical resources has increased sharply, China is willing to take this opportunity to make a joint effort with Guyana to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields including health sector and continuously contribute to the high quality of Guyana’s health services,” the Ambassador said.
