In a statement on Monday, the Guyana Police Force said an investigation was launched into the alleged murder/suicide which occurred between 00:30 hrs and 06:30 hrs on Monday.

Ajay Budhan, a 26-year-old Farmer of Long Creek Soesdyke/Linden Highway and Ashley Singh, an 18-year-old female from Soesdyke, the two deceased persons, shared a relationship.

Investigations revealed that Budhan was a licensed firearm holder of a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun and the owner of a white Toyota Tundra (#GAD 8403). Enquiries revealed that at around 00:30 hrs, the two left a resort located at Hillfoot, Soesdyke Linden Highway, in Budhan’s vehicle.

They were later discovered, dead, by a 23-year-old labourer of Long Creek, who was riding a motorcycle that he had borrowed from a friend when he saw the white Tundra parked on the northern side of a trail with its lights on and what appeared to be a bullet hole in the right side front door glass. He became suspicious and reported this to the Police.

Subsequently, the Police arrived at the scene and found Singh’s lifeless body, slumped in the right-side front seat with what appeared to be a gunshot entry wound on the right side neck and an exit wound to the left side neck and shoulder.

Meanwhile, Budhan was found on the ground, face up, on the left side of the vehicle, with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. To the right of his body was his shotgun.

The shotgun was examined, and a round was found in the breach. There were 18 empty 12-gauge casings and nine live 12-gauge cartridges recovered at the scene. Two Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max cellphones were recovered, one belonging to the couple.

The body of Ajay Budhan was identified by Aaron Budhan, a 30-year-old Farmer of Loo Creek, to be that of his brother, while the body of Singh was identified by her cousin, Roland Baya, a 29-year-old of Hillfoot, Soesdyke Linden Highway.

The bodies were escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, where they were pronounced dead by a doctor. The bodies are currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing continue.

At the time, Sam, 53, of South Ruimveldt Park Georgetown, was liming at the Gold Rush Bar with three of his friends.

Archer also has pending matters of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and possession of narcotics for trafficking.

The trial into those matters commenced and continues on August 24.

The murder charge was laid against Archer following his discharge from the hospital where he was nursing a gunshot wound to his thigh.

Archer was shot on August 5 after he allegedly tried to open fire on ranks who were conducting surveillance in the area.

Following the incident, the ranks returned to the area and recovered a .32 pistol, without a serial number, and two rounds in the bushes where he was shot.

The animal, powered by a Brazilian jockey, arrived in the country less than a fortnight ago.

“It feels great (to win). But the defending champion Alado, I really thought he was going to do it today,” Mohamed Jr. remarked after the race.

“I was not expecting him (Easy Time) to win; he only came (in Guyana) 10 days ago. He wasn’t fit. We got him from an auction. He came out, did great and outclassed the horses.”

El Tarzan of the Slingerz Racing Stable came in a distant second, followed by Our Stuie of the Jagdeo Racing Stable and Bossalina, owned by Deleep Esreepersaud.

The main race had an overall purse of US$44,849 (G$9,687,500), with the winner carting off US$23,148 or 51.6% and the massive Guyana Cup trophy.

Over G$30 million in cash and prizes was at stake in the one-day event, staged by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee in partnership with corporate Guyana.

two children who were infected with dengue and were receiving care in the Georgetown hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) passed away.

Dr. Anthony could not immediately state how many adults also passed away after being infected with dengue in recent weeks but he highlighted that the Americas have seen a surge in dengue cases over the past several weeks.

Guyana has not been spared; the country recorded more than 3,500 cases for the year so far with at least 2,169 cases still active based on statistics the News Room obtained on Friday.

Because of the surge in dengue cases, Dr. Anthony said fogging exercises are being done across the country. He also noted that “literally thousands” of testing kits were distributed to regional health authorities.

“We’ve improved the diagnostics which has allowed us to monitor what’s going on.

“The regions have to report on all cases so that we can see a picture of what’s happening in the country (but) I think now it’s on the decline,” Dr. Anthony said.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease and its symptoms include high fevers, head and body aches and nausea.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said these increased infections are, in part, linked to global warming. Increased temperatures are said to be conducive for the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito which spreads the disease and thrives in stagnant water.
