The small but consistent Team Coco recorded one National Championship win with Clivecia Spencer, reigning Champion Girl from last year’s 60th School Nationals.
Kaieteur Attack Racing rounded out the 2023 Champions with a Master’s Time Trial Win from Quincy ‘Kwame’ Ridley.
In a release to the media, Ridely, credited hard work and determination as the key to success as the large club recorded top-five placements in almost all categories with cyclists Abigail Jeffrey, Tandecia Noel, Ajani Cutting, Sebastian Nathan, Alexis Mendes, Arjune Sookai and new member, Romello Crawford, 2021 Men’s Elite Road Race Champion.

Dans une déclaration publique en date du 26 juin 2023, l’homme d’affaires haïtiano-américain, André M Apaid, exprime sa consternation face aux sanctions imposées par le Canada à son encontre l’accusant d’être de connivence avec des bandits armés. Soulignant les conséquences néfastes de cette décision sur ses efforts visant à soutenir le développement social et la création d’emplois dans l’une des régions les plus négligées d’Haïti, M. Apaid demande à la Ministre canadienne des Affaires étrangères de revérifier ses sources.
André M Apaid affirme qu’il ne comprend pas pourquoi il a été inclus dans la liste des personnes sanctionnées, accusées de violations des droits de l’homme en Haïti, y compris des violences sexuelles. « Je rejette fermement toutes les accusations et les soupçons selon lesquels je contribuerais à l’insécurité ou à la corruption », déclare Apaid, demandant à Mélanie Joly, la ministre canadienne des Affaires étrangères, de vérifier ses sources et les faits.
L’homme d’affaires affirme que la décision du Canada aura de graves conséquences sur ses relations commerciales, mettant en avant son projet agricole ambitieux dans la région du Plateau central en collaboration avec des partenaires étrangers. « Je suis un citoyen haïtien-américain dévoué, fermement engagé en faveur d’une résolution pacifique de la grave crise que traverse notre pays. Les acteurs politiques et la société civile sont bien conscients de cela », souligne-t-il.
Dans son communiqué de presse, Apaid déclare que, à l’exception de l’ambassadeur actuel du Canada en Haïti, Sébastien Carrière, qu’il n’a pas rencontré, « presque tous les ambassadeurs canadiens depuis 2004 ont été témoins de ses efforts et de ses contributions visant à persuader les gangs de rendre leurs armes ». Malgré les défis, l’homme d’affaires affirme dans sa déclaration qu’il travaille sans relâche pour créer des dizaines de milliers d’emplois en Haïti.
André Apaid, un industriel de longue date, s’est fait connaître au début des années 2000 en tant que leader de l’organisation de la société civile appelée Groupe 184, qui a initié un mouvement social et s’est opposé à Jean-Bertrand Aristide lorsqu’il était président. Selon le journal Miami Herald en Floride, les banques haïtiennes, craignant de perdre leurs relations bancaires avec les banques américaines et canadiennes, réagissent aux sanctions en fermant des comptes, ce qui complique les affaires pour les particuliers en Haïti.

Il s’agit d’investigations dans le cadre de trois enquêtes distinctes.
Le juge réalise des investigations sur des détournements de fonds à la caisse d’assistance sociale (CAS), au Bureau de Monetisation de l’aide publique au Développement (BMPAD) et sur le massacre de La Saline.
L’ex directeur général du ministère de l’intérieur, M. Fednel Monchery, n’avait pas répondu à une invitation du magistrat la semaine écoulée. Ce refus a poussé le juge instructeur à transmettre un mandat d’amener à la DCPJ.
L’ex agent exécutif intérimaire, M. Pierre Richard Duplan, s’est montré plus conciliant dans cette enquête sur le massacre de La Saline. Son avocat a pu obtenir un report de l’audience.
Ancienne Mairesse de l’Arcahaie , Mme Rosemila Petit Frère, est également invitée par le juge Morin. Elle doit informer le magistrat sur les détournements de fonds à la caisse d’assistance sociale. Même ne disposant pas d’une fonction officielle, Mme Petit Frère est un membre important de la coalition au pouvoir. Cela n’a pas dissuadé le juge a interrogé l’ex Maire réputée proche de la directrice du CAS, écrouée.
L’ex sénateur Nenel Cassy doit également répondre à une convocation du juge Morin en rapport avec le dossier de détournement de fonds au Bureau de Monétisation de l’aide publique au développement (BMPAD). M. Cassy, est un proche de l’ex directeur Patrick Noramé, accusé d’avoir dilapidé des fonds provenant d’une aide du Japon.

A small island with an extensive and impactful culture. Reggae music is a huge part of the Jamaican culture and over the past years, have made a great impact on other genres of music. The love for Reggae music has allowed for it to be adopted into the soundtrack for movies and advertisements both locally and internationally. Politicians have used the music as soundtracks on campaigns or meetings. You can hear reggae music on a weekend in the squares/towns, at weddings and also at night (otherwise called “a dance/party”) sessions.
Reggae music is for everyone – the young and the old – and is oftentimes the best way to get people on their feet and dancing. Bob Marley was the ultimate reggae ambassador before he died and even now his music still takes reggae worldwide. The trend by leisure travelers to spend on experiences rather than things has continued, and escalated, in the post-pandemic era. That data is evidenced by a recent Mastercard Economics Institute study. The research compared numbers from March 2022 to March 2023.
Experiences vs. Things
Experience vacations offer the excitement of anticipation. They also provide emotional gratification with which objects can’t compare. The desire for new experiences is being driven in large part due to pandemic lockdowns and social media interactions.
Leisure travelers are seeking greater diversity, exhibiting a demand for the unique, and immersion in cultural experiences. Caribbean countries are rising to meet those desires by tailoring special experiences for greater engagement that creates long-lasting relationships with consumers.
More Spending on Business Travel and Entertainment
While spending is down for items in travelers’ home countries, the market for mementos, air travel, entertainment, and lodging are up in Caribbean destinations of choice. Jamaica saw a spending increase by consumers of more than 105.9 percent, followed by Aruba at over 70 percent, Bahamas at 40.2 percent, and Barbados at 25.7 percent.
This is despite uncertain economic conditions, rising interest rates, and inflation. Business travel and related spending are keeping pace with leisure time travel. Consumers in countries where wages have decreased or remained the same have fewer funds for discretionary spending. Those consumers are seeking value-centered options for their travel. Individuals are spending less on everyday essentials, saving for experience vacations, and expecting more for their travel dollars.
