Aimed at promoting highlighting challenges, Autism Awareness month launched in Reg. 5
The Ministry of Education on Tuesday launched Autism Awareness Month at the Bath Settlement Primary School, West Coast Berbice.
This year, Autism Awareness Month is being observed under the theme “Transforming the Narrative: Contributions at Home, Work, in the Arts, and Policymaking.”
Senior Education Officer (SEN), Nikoya Alleyne, in brief remarks stated that the goal is to raise awareness of the challenges that persons with autism experience in society and for people to accept persons with autism.
She noted the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Priya Manickchand, is working to provide equitable educational opportunities for persons living with disabilities.
She further extended gratitude to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) for their continued support. Allen disclosed that this year, in addition to distributing sensory kits to learners throughout Guyana who are living with autism, GPL will be offering an internship to a person living with autism.
Education Officer (SEN) and Psychologist at the Regional Special Education Needs/Disability and Diagnostic Centre, Deborah London said that the assessment and diagnostic process of individuals is important so they can get the support needed.
Meanwhile, Regional Education Officer Region Five, Keane Adams highlighted that the decision to host the launch for the month of activities sends a signal that services are not centralized.
At the launch, GPL was presented with a certificate for its continued support.
Additionally, officers from the Regional Special Education Needs/Disability and Diagnostic Centre were present to provide services such as occupational and speech therapy. The children also participated in games and face painting. (Modified press release from Ministry of Education)

Death at Day Care: Manslaughter charge recommended for owner
returned to the Police with advice that there is sufficient evidence to charge the owner, Denise Benn with the crime.
The advice came about a week after the DPP returned the file to the Police, asking that they conduct further investigation.
A joint investigation was launched into the incident which claimed the life of seven-month-old Oriya Gravesande on March 21 at the Little Learners Day Care.
The infant died hours after she was dropped off at the Day Care by her mother.
An autopsy later determined that haemorrhaging, suffocation and compression to the neck were the causes of death.
During the investigation, the owner of the Day Care was taken into Police custody but was later released on cash bail.
The News Room understands that the baby girl was found unresponsive and taken to a health centre where medical professionals attempted to resuscitate her.
The healthcare workers there subsequently called an ambulance from the Georgetown Public Hospital but it seemed too late.
The child was pronounced dead at the city’s main hospital minutes after she was brought in.

Le Secrétaire général de l’ONU, M. António Guterres, avait annoncé en mars dernier la nomination de Mme María Isabel Salvador, de l’Équateur, au poste de Représentante spéciale pour Haïti et Chef du Bureau intégré des Nations Unies en Haïti (BINUH).
Mme Salvador succèdera à Mme Helen Meagher La Lime, des États-Unis.
Mme Salvador est titulaire d’une maîtrise en administration des affaires de l’Universidad Andrés Bello, du Chili, et de l’Universidad Europea de Madrid, en Espagne, et d’une licence en langue et civilisation françaises de l’Université de Genève, en Suisse. Elle termine actuellement un diplôme en droits humains et de la nature à l’UDLA, en Équateur. Outre l’espagnol, sa langue maternelle, elle parle couramment l’anglais et le français.

Trafic d’armes: Le dossier du prêtre episcopalien progresse
La Police Haïtienne appelle les autorités judiciaires à poursuivre un prêtre episcopalien accusé de trafic d’armes.
Selon des informations, ayant fuité dans les médias et provenant du troisième rapport de la direction Centrale de la Police Judiciaire, le père Frantz Coles serait l’un des chefs d’un réseau de trafiquants d’armes et de munitions ayant acheminé des milliers d’armes de gros calibres en Haïti.Écroué depuis le 17 août 2022, le père Coles avait été défendu par l’avocat du chef de gang Vitelhomme Innocent.
Les enquêteurs du bureau des affaires financières et du bureau des affaires criminelles ont découvert de nombreux indices qui prouvent l’implication du père Coles et d’autres dirigeants de l’église épiscopale dans le trafic d’armes.Selon les enquêteurs de la Police judiciaire le père Coles est détenteur de plusieurs comptes dont un de plus d’un million de dollars. De plus un autre prêtre, un ressortissant du Zimbabwe, reçoit mensuellement plus de 30 000 dollars de l’église épiscopale d’Haiti.
Plus d’une dizaine de personnes sont recherchées dans le cadre de cette affaire qui éclabousse l’église épiscopale en particulier et les églises haitiennes en général.
Selon le rapport le réseau du père Coles évolue dans le cadre d’un réseau de criminels avec les gang de Village de Dieu et de Krazé Barrière.LLM / radio Métropole Haïti

Dans plusieurs quartiers La Police repousse les bandits
Les forces de police haïtiennes font état de multiples opérations la semaine écoulée.
Le porte parole de la Police, M. Gary Desrosiers, indique que des résultats satisfaisants ont été obtenus par les forces de l’ordre.Au moins 6 enlèvements ont été déjoués et des bandits appréhendés à Poste marchand, zone de Saint Anne, Avenue Pouoelard, Portail Leogane, Tabarre et rue Osvald Durand .
En dépit de faibles moyens des opérations ont été réalisées à Laboule, Torcel et Vivy Michel le week-end écoulé.
M. Desrosiers assure que les forces de l’ordre sont déterminées
à poursuivre les opérations à Torcel.
Les activités commencent à reprendre dans l’axe principal de Torcel, dit il appelant les citoyens à poursuivre la collaboration avec la PNH.Il plaide pour une synergie entre les institutions publiques afin de relever le défi sécuritaire.
Il s’agit dr la poursuite de l’opération Tornade. C’est une opération dynamique, à laissé entendre M. Desrosiers se réjouissant de la détermination des résidents de plusieurs quartiers à empêcher les offensives des gangs.

Dua Lipa on Holiday in Jamaica
The English/Albanian singer and songwriter Dua Lipa enjoyed a vacation at one of her favorite destinations, the Goldeneye Hotel in Jamaica on Oracabessa Bay where author Ian Fleming wrote all 14 of his popular James Bond novels. Posting to social media, the recording star wrote, “All calm and stress freeee! Spent a couple weeks out at goldeneye islandoutpost and I wrote about some of my favorite spots in Jamaica for @Service95.”
The singer made quite a fashion statement during her island visit by sharing social media posts of her wardrobe choices, which heavily favored bikinis and crochet. Photos pictured Lipa by the Caribbean waters in a silver crochet and sequin cover-up layered over a white bikini top, wearing a hot pink crop top and orange crochet pants by ANDREĀDAMO accessorized with gold jewelry and a chain belt by MOYA. She is also known for her love statement bikinis, but on her Jamaican trip, she favored a retro look with a floral bikini by Feline Swim worn with Bottega Veneta wire stud flower earrings. Going out on the town one night, Dua Lipa made her selection from designer Givenchy’s Spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection: a washed denim bra top and matching low-rise maxi skirt, matched with silver earrings from Justine Clenquet.
In addition to sharing her fashion choices during her vacation, Lipa also posted about some of the cuisine she enjoyed and a photo from her night out at a local bar. She made special mention of her favorite Jamaican attractions, which include Jake’s Treasure Beach Hotel and the Kingston Dub Club. Lipa shared that she was ready for some downtime after what had been a hectic start to the year, writing in her weekly Service 95 newsletter about some of her experiences on the island, including taking walks along “icing-sugar-sand beaches with lush mountains in the distance, reggae playing wherever I went, and tasting those delicious Caribbean flavors — not to mention the rum cocktails.” The singer said that after her trip, she felt revitalized and ready for whatever the rest of the year brought.
