In round one, Demerara thumped Essequibo by 55 runs, and the Select XI prevailed by the narrow margin of a single run against Berbice.

The third and final round will be played on Friday with Berbice facing Essequibo at GCC, and the GCB Select XI up against Demerara at Enmore. Both matches will start at 09:30h.

Born prematurely because the pregnancy was high-risk, the babies are still receiving care at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital. This was Hope’s second pregnancy but she said it was very difficult and she had to be transferred from a hospital in Region Ten to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

During an interview with the News Room on Wednesday, the young mother said she is hopeful that her babies will be discharged from the hospital soon.

“I didn’t know I was pregnant until four months and after I found out, it was hard because I was thinking of my daughter. She hasn’t reached two [years old] as yet.

“I was scared because with her and all the responsibilities but then I thought about it and I went ahead with it,” Christine said.

Further, the mother said the time spent at the hospital was not horrible because she was treated well. Pregnancy pains, however, caused her great discomfort.

“The doctor, nobody wasn’t bad; they treated me good but the pregnancy was really bad but I came through,” she proudly said.

According to Hope, she started getting abdominal pains in January and she was admitted to the Kwakwani Hospital. Subsequently, she was transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex and finally, to the Georgetown hospital.

The young woman said upon the babies’ release from the hospital, she will return to her Kwakwani home. She is currently staying with family in Georgetown so she can make hospital trips on a daily basis.

The father of her sons and her family offer her support at this time but the mother said when she returns home, a woman she calls ‘mom’ will be assisting her.

Despite the joys of motherhood, Hope said he is worried about her brother who has a disability.

Her younger brother relies heavily on her for support. Because she is currently unemployed, providing for her children and her brother has become difficult.

“It does be very hard on me but I don’t have anybody he could go by so I take up the responsibility in doing what I have to do to look after him,” Hope said.

Further, Hope explained that her brother cannot move on his own which is why she is worried about how she will balance caring for her young daughter, her triplets and her brother when she returns home.

CPGL President, Liu Xiaoxiang recounted that the management and staff of his firm were touched by the tragic fire and are delighted to be of assistance.

He highlighted that the inspiration for the donation was rooted in the traditional Chinese conviction to come to the assistance of those in need, noting that the company is committed to the promotion of education in Guyana.

In thanking the administration of the school for its cooperation in accepting the donation, Mr. Liu expressed hope that the money would help to relieve the difficult circumstances facing the students and staff.

“We hope that CPGL’s donation today will help in some small way to replace some of your losses and rehabilitate your school. We hope that you will succeed in your studies and be a part of Guyana’s bright future,” he concluded.

Chen Xilai, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of China in Guyana, identified the donation as a good example of Chinese companies making contributions to the local community.

The Deputy Chief of Mission also shared that his country welcomes talented Guyanese students to study at world-class universities in China with the CPGL President indicating the company’s intention to subsidise scholarships for students studying oil and gas.

CPGL’s contribution also came in for praise and appreciation from the Secretary of the Board of Christ Church Secondary School, Odessa Debarros; PTA President, Loknauth and the Headmistress.

Harpy Eagles’ recovery continued with a seventh wicket stand of 88 between Sinclair and Keemo Paul, who struck seven fours and a six in 39-ball 46.

The partnership ended when Sinclair fell for 69 off 96 (11x4s).

three men were nabbed in Guyana’s waters by ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard as they attempted to flee with the stolen items.

It was noted that two Guyanese fishermen were asleep on the vessel, which was moored at Waini Point, when they were awoken by three suspects, two pointing long guns at them. The suspects were all wearing flashlights on their foreheads.

The victims said the alleged ‘pirates’ spoke to them in a foreign language (believed to be Spanish) and ordered them off the boat.

The suspects then took control of the boat and fled toward the Venezuelan border.

The incident was reported to the Police at Morawhanna Police Station and as a result, Police and Coast Guard ranks swiftly proceeded to a notorious area on the water top called ‘Crab Dog’ where they intercepted the stolen boat with the suspects inside.

the BOSAI Minerals employee, whose body was retrieved days after he was trapped when the mining pit he was working on collapsed, died from suffocation, a Post Mortem Examination (PME) confirmed on Wednesday.

The autopsy was performed by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh at the Memorial Gardens mortuary after which Hercules’ body was handed over to his relatives for burial.

Fifty-nine-year-old Hercules, a resident of Wismar, Linden went missing in the wee hours of Saturday after a plot of land he was working on swallowed him and the bulldozer he was operating.

A search and rescue operation was immediately launched and after more than 24 hours, Hercules and the equipment remained missing.

The man’s decomposed body was found at the company’s Montgomery Mines in Linden, Region 10 on Tuesday following a massive search and rescue operation. Rescuers pulled his body from inside the bulldozer.

Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton later revealed that the company will now have to answer tough questions on its safety practices as the ministry continues an investigation into the matter.

“An investigation is going on simultaneously that we are doing…the company will be made to answer the tough questions on safety,” Hamilton said as he promised a preliminary report by the end of the week.

Currently, all mine operations at the company have been suspended.

Hercules worked with the company for over 40 years and was set to retire later this year.
