Batting prodigy Kevlon Anderson, Guyana’s latest Test cricketer, has inked a one-year deal with Cricket Zone USA, via its homegrown E4 line of products.

The right-handed Anderson, who made his Test debut for West Indies in the third and final match against Australia at Sabina Park earlier this month, stopped by at Cricket Zone USA’s location at 1656 Castle Hill Avenue, New York, where he met with Managing Director Ravi Etwaroo.

The Guyanese businessman welcomed the 24-year-old Anderson onboard, wishing him well as an ambassador of E4.

“We are delighted to sign Kevlon for a period of one year,” Etwaroo said.

“Kevlon is one of our homegrown talents, much like E4, which is also a homegrown brand with the Guyanese stamp on it.”

Anderson, who had a previous deal with Cricket Zone USA via Adidas, was elated to represent E4.

“E4 is a quality line of products and it’s in demand now, so I’m extremely happy to be aligned with it. Thanks to Ravi for making it possible,” Anderson related.

Anderson earned his maiden international call-up after another dominant Four-Day season where he scored 573 runs- third most overall- in 11 innings for champions Guyana Harpy Eagles.

He averaged 71.62 and scored three hundreds and three fifties.

Meanwhile, E4 is International Cricket Council (ICC) approved to be used in all formats of international cricket (Tests, ODIs and T20Is), meaning the the E4 logo can legally be displayed on clothing and equipment used in international cricket.

To gain this accreditation and approval in March 2024, it was important the E4 brand catered to all levels of cricket- male, female, senior, junior and youth.

Amerindian leader Yvonne Pearson has warned her fellow indigenous people to be wary of politicians who will come with promises to their communities seeking their votes for the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

“To Amerindian villages, don’t be misled, don’t be distracted, don’t let anybody come and tell you that you deh bad. No way!” she said during her address to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporters gathered at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, Region Two for the party’s rally on Saturday afternoon.

“They will come in all colours, all race; don’t listen to them. Come September 1, we voting for the PPP/C,” she added.

The former Toshao of Mainstay/Wyaka and Member of Parliament noted that the PPP/C is the only party with “real leadership” devoid of any uncertainty regarding who those leaders are.

“We ain’t wonder who going to be the Prime Minister or President, we ain’t wondering anything, we know who will be our President, we know who is our Vice President, we know who is the Prime Minister,” she said, taking a jab at other political parties which took some time before announcing their Prime Ministerial Candidates for the upcoming polls.

She referred to the development in Region two which includes developments in health and education, construction of roads, provision of training and employment opportunities and more.

“We see development, we do not have to take lamp and look for it. Essequibo has been transformed, Essequibo is moving forward…in all this development, in all that is happening, I want to say loud and clear that the Amerindian villages are not left behind because of our leadership with the vision… don’t let nobody come and tell you we are being left behind,” Pearson said.

The Amerindian leader also lauded the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) which has contributed greatly to the development of Amerindian communities.

Recently, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo disclosed that the government allocates more than 20% of the LCDS funds to the Indigenous communities amounting to over $14B to conduct developmental projects.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh told Berbicians that the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) cares for citizens and vowed that the party will be making major investments in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

Dr. Singh spoke to residents of Little Africa, Region Six, during a public meeting in the area on Friday. He reminded them of the hardships felt across the region from 2015 to 2020, when the APNU+AFC coalition was in office.

The closure of several sugar estates, he said, was particularly hard on Berbicians who depend heavily on this sector. He also reminded them of the coalition’s decision to introduce new taxes and remove grants given to each schoolchild.

He compared that to the PPP’s efforts, including investments in people and the development of the region. A new bridge across the Corentyne River, and a four-lane one across the Berbice River are new investments expected to stimulate growth in the region. Dr. Singh also noted that new housing developments and investments in the social sectors are also on the cards.

Such efforts, he said, will continue once the PPP is re-elected in the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections. So he told the Little Africa residents that they should make the right choice and vote for the PPP.

“It’s a simple choice. It’s a choice between those who care and those who do not.

“And I want to say that the PPP/C is the only party that genuinely cares for the people of Guyana,” Dr. Singh affirmed.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced plans to establish a special development banking institution aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Guyana.

The bank, he said, will offer loans at zero percent interest and introduce a co-investment model to ease collateral requirements and reduce borrowing costs for local entrepreneurs.

“We will be setting up a special development banking institution that will lend at 0 percent interest to small and medium-sized enterprises, and that will co-invest with the bank to reduce the collateral requirement and interest rate for business loans,” President Ali announced on Friday night as he addressed a public meeting at Industry Market Square.

“These are the things that matter to the Guyanese families,” the President added.

The government also intends to develop a dedicated facility to house small businesses in a safe, high-value, and secure environment—providing entrepreneurs with the infrastructure and dignity they need to grow and succeed.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to empower local businesses, enhance economic independence, and create inclusive opportunities for all citizens.

The governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) built six new state-of-the-art hospitals during its first term in government, a stark contrast to the opposition APNU+AFC’s record of taking five years to complete a single polyclinic, , according to newly minted party member James Bond.

“I know I was coming to South Ruimveldt and they would say they built a polyclinic. But ladies and gentlemen, the PPP/C has built six new state-of-the-art hospitals in three years. They took five years on one clinic,” Bond declared to loud cheers.

“I come to beat and teach.”

Bond, a former Member of Parliament and Attorney-at-Law, recently joined the PPP/C and has since taken to the campaign trail with unrelenting criticisms of his former political home. On Friday, he tore into the APNU+AFC’s record on healthcare, youth development, infrastructure, and agriculture.

The PPP/C, he noted, is also on track to deliver two specialised hospitals this year — one maternity and one paediatric, both firsts for Guyana.

Shifting focus to youth, Bond offered a personal reflection on his time with the coalition. “I was a victim of their youth policy. I proposed in the manifesto for APNU representation for youth in the Cabinet, Parliament, and every echelon of power. But what did they do? They excluded young people,” he said.

He rubbished the opposition’s claim of empowering 1,000 youths with businesses. “Ladies and gentlemen, the UN states that 70% of our population is under the age of 35. So if we estimate our population around 800,000, then 560,000 are youths. If they gave 1,000 youth businesses, that’s a miserly 0.17% of the youth population,” Bond calculated.

“In Region Four alone, we [the PPP/C] have created over 3,000 small contractors and given out over 10,000 grants for small businesses,” he added.

Bond did not spare Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton either. “When I listen to him, I realise Aubrey Compton Norton knows nothing,” he said bluntly.

“Imagine, he served an entire tenure as Opposition Leader and never told anyone to apply for farmland, a shade house, tunnel house, or a brackish shrimp farm — now he wants to lecture us on agriculture? Norton knows nothing.”

On the vital issue of oil and gas, Bond said Norton’s critiques lack understanding. “He criticises the oil and gas policy, but he clearly doesn’t know that we have a new PSA that guarantees us 10% royalty, 10% corporation tax, and reduced expenses to be claimed — from 75% to 65% — meaning more money for a 50/50 split. Norton knows nothing!” he stressed.

Calling on residents to rally behind President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, Bond made his appeal clear: “Your children’s future depends on us voting for tried, tested, and trusted leadership.”

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has marked a significant milestone in its drive to elevate local football standards, honouring 12 coaches who completed the CONCACAF C License Coaching Programme.

This initiative is a key part of the federation’s ongoing commitment to advanced coach education.

The graduates, who now join the expanding ranks of CONCACAF-certified coaches, include: Leon Roberts, Jersild Wright, Dwain Babb, Jamal Johnson, Andre Gibbs, Andrew Nestor, Delon Williams, Nichola Argyle, Trevon Lythcott, Wheatland Fordyce, Trevor Burnett, and Jamal Pedro.

These individuals are now equipped to meet CONCACAF’s rigorous standards, fulfil club licensing requirements, and play a vital role in the technical development of both youth and senior players across Guyana.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, GFF Technical Director Bryan Joseph praised the dedication of the cohort and underscored the broader vision behind the programme. “We are at a turning point in Guyanese football,” Joseph stated.

“The future of our game — and our dream of reaching the World Cup at any level — depends on qualified coaches across every region.

This C License programme is part of a bigger picture. It’s about giving every child, no matter where they live, the chance to work under competent, certified guidance.”

The comprehensive course was delivered in three rigorous blocks, combining theoretical knowledge, practical sessions, and a supervised development period.

It was led by experienced Coach Educators Bryan Joseph and Lyndon France, covering critical elements such as team function, tactical principles, leadership, and effective session planning.

Joseph noted the exceptional engagement and commitment of this cohort, describing it as “the best C License we’ve ever done,” and urged the graduates to become ambassadors for coach education within their communities.

Tim David produced a brutal display of hitting with Australia’s fastest T20I century from 37 balls as the visitors surged to a series-winning victory by chasing 215 with a massive 23 deliveries to spare on a boundary-filled night in St Kitts.

Shai Hope’s maiden T20I century, in which he formed an opening stand of 125 with Brandon King, helped West Indies post 214 for 4 and when Australia wobbled on 87 for 4 in the ninth over, the target was a considerable distance off.

However, David produced a breathtaking performance which rewrote the record books with firstly Australia’s fastest fifty from 16 deliveries, and then the century mark with the boundary that also brought victory. In all he plundered 11 sixes in his maiden T20 century.

In his first international series, Mitchell Owen played his part with 36 off 16 balls in a fifth-wicket stand of 128 from just 46 balls.

David’s masterclass

This was only the eighth time in his 42 T20I innings for Australia that David had batted higher than No. 6 when he walked out following a scratchy innings from captain Mitchell Marsh.

He was 15 off seven balls when he faced Gudakesh Motie in the 10th over and collected four consecutive sixes.

In the next over from Akeal Hosein he added two more, with a boundary between them taking him to fifty off 16 balls.

Such was his focus and confidence in match-ups that he turned down a single in Roston Chase’s only over so he could retain the strike against the offspinner and proceeded to take three further sixes as the chase quickly came down towards a run-a-ball.

Numerous times, the umpires needed to call for the replacement box of balls, with a few souvenirs now lying outside Warner Park for anyone who wanted to have a look.

The game was probably gone from the West Indies, but they gave David a life on 90 when King dropped a sitter at deep midwicket.

After that, the only slight danger to the century record was whether Owen would finish the game first.

But despite Owen being handed a six when Rovman Powell stepped on the rope taking a catch at long-on, David wasn’t denied and comfortably eclipsed the previous record of 43 balls set by Josh Inglis against Scotland last year.

Shai gives hope

West Indies’ captain put together a top-class innings to dominate the home side’s display, becoming just the second West Indian after Chris Gayle to have centuries across all formats.

Initially, he was a little sluggish and five off seven balls before finding his first boundary, but was in control throughout.

He hit his stride by taking advantage of Glenn Maxwell’s powerplay with a four and consecutive sixes, then put Owen out of the ground – the first but not last instance of that for the night.

Hope’s fifty came from 26 balls, with King’s following off 30 deliveries, and he then motored towards three figures, including consecutive sixes off Adam Zampa.

Godfrey Samuels, president of the Guyana National Domino Federation (GNDF), is heaping praises on the Government of Guyana following full backing from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for Guyana’s participation in the 20^th World Domino Championships in Antigua and Barbuda.

Samuels, along with GNDF Executive Member Wayne Griffith, received G$5.9 million in funding on Friday from Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, a sum that fully covers the expenses for 28 players and two officials for the championship, scheduled for August 10-18.

“We want to thank President Irfaan Ali,” said Samuels, noting that although the GNDF had formally written to the Ministry of Sport requesting assistance, it was during a People’s Progressive Party/Civic manifesto consultation that they had the opportunity to directly engage the President.

“After we explained to President Ali the significance of Guyana’s participation at this year’s championship, he made a commitment to support us. It’s the first time ever we’ve received this level of support. They’re covering the full budget we submitted. We’re extremely grateful,” Samuels added.

During Friday’s presentation, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting all disciplines, including dominoes, which he described as one of Guyana’s most popular pastimes.

“Dominoes is more than a leisure game in Guyana. At the competitive level, we’ve seen tremendous growth over the years, more structured tournaments, more clubs, and more representation,” Ninvalle said.

In 2023, Guyana hosted the World Domino Championships at the Guyana National Stadium, with the Government playing a central role in facilitating the event.

This year, Guyana will be one of 10 countries vying for over US$20,000 in cash prizes at the tournament, which will be hosted at the John E. Luce Building in St. John’s, Antigua.

Teams will compete across multiple formats, including Four-Hand Team, Three-Hand Male Team, Three-Hand Female Team, Male Pairs, Mixed Pairs, King of Domino, and Queen of Domino categories.

With less than a week to go to the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Independence T10 Cup on August 1 at the LBI Ground, the fixtures have been confirmed with the eight teams now aware of their opponent.

The draw on Friday, conducted by DCB executives Davteerth Anandjit and Avishkar Ramgobin, revealed that Better Hope will face Transport in Match One, starting at 10:00h.

Match Two from 11:50h will bring together Lusignan and Helena One and Two, followed by Match Three from 13:40h between Enterprise and Meten-Meer-Zorg East.

Match Four will bring together LBI and Herstelling A from 15:30h.

The winners of Match One and Match Three will then clash in Semi-Final One from 17:20h, followed by the winners of Match Two and Four facing off in Semi-Final Two from 19:10h.

The grand final will take place from 21:00h.

The champion team is guaranteed G$250,000 cash plus trophy; the runners-up G$150,000 and trophy, while the losing semi-finalists will be receive G$50,000 each.

On the individual side, Man-of-the-Match in the semi-finals and final will receive a trophy.

Apart from the on-field entertainment, fans can get lucky with several gate prizes to be won.

Admission is G$1,000.
