Four years after he pleaded guilty and was remanded for armed robbery, Marlon Vossey, 24, is now wanted for larceny, break and enter, and discharging a loaded firearm.

Police Headquarters on Thursday issued a bulletin for his arrest. His last known address is Lot 31 No. 5 Village, West Coast Berbice.

In 2021, Vossey was charged with armed robbery and possession of an illegal firearm. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years imprisonment.

Vossey pleaded guilty to robbing a 49-year-old man of Good Hope, Essequibo Coast, at gunpoint of $1.5 million and three gold chains valued at $380, 000 on October 15, 2021.

Following the robbery, Vossey and two accomplices attempted to escape into the Supenaam Creek but were apprehended by public-spirited citizens and later handed over to the police.

A .38 revolver and a bag containing $224,890 cash was also recovered during the arrest of Vossey and one of his accomplices.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure will play a critical role in ensuring food quality and safety throughout the supply chain. The total investment for this ambitious project stands at US $13.2 million for the first phase, with an additional US $28 million allocated for the second phase.

Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the launch of a free Learn to Swim programme in Essequibo County.

The initiative begins on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, at the Imam Bacchus Swimming Pool in Affiance.

This program marks a significant moment for the region, aligning with the government’s “One Guyana” initiative to bridge development gaps nationwide.

Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle highlighted this connection, stating the program’s importance in promoting water safety and inclusivity.

Dignitaries, including Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr., Ninvalle, and Regional Chairman Vilma De Silva, will participate in the opening ceremony starting at 14:00h.

The programme has garnered significant interest, with over 350 registrants from coastal villages and Pomeroon. Sessions will cater to both children and adults, with separate timings:

• Children: Fridays & Saturdays, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM (July 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28)
• Adults: Sundays, 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM (July 7, 14, 21, 28)

A team of experienced coaches led by Head Swimming Coach Paul Mahaica will ensure a smooth and successful program and foster a safe and comfortable learning environment for all participants.

Ronaldo Watson, the 25-year-old man who was found dead in his apartment on June 28, died as a result of hemorrhagic pneumonia, a post-mortem examination revealed on Wednesday.

The post-mortem was conducted by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh.

Hemorrhagic pneumonia is a severe form of pneumonia characterised by bleeding into the lungs.

Symptoms include difficulty breathing and coughing, often coughing up blood, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Watson who was a procurement manager from First Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara had complained about having the flu with headaches and vomiting a few days prior.

He was last seen alive on June 25, 2024. He was discovered dead when friends and relatives went to check on him.

Children’s performances in Mathematics, English and Social Studies at the 2024 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) improved this year.

This was announced on Thursday by Dr. Nicole Manning, the Director of Operations (Examinations Services) at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

This regional body has worked alongside Guyana’s Ministry of Education for the NGSA.

Dr. Manning. However, noted that science scores dipped slightly, even as the average science grade remained relatively the same.

English pass rates moved to 66.79 per cent from 64.47 per cent last year; Social Studies moved from 58.57 per cent last year to 62.88 per cent this year and Mathematics moved from 38.87 per cent last year to 40.36 per cent this year.

Importantly, Dr. Manning said the region must welcome improved mathematics scores.

“This is important for not only Guyana but for CXC,” she said, noting that these improved scores are the highest mathematics pass rates recorded over the past five years.

In 2021, the mathematics pass rate was 36.5 per cent; in 2022, it was 34.72 per cent; and last year, 38.87 per cent.
