Young Fast Bowler Jayden Seales returns to the squad having missed the last Test Series against Australia due to injury and experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has earned a recall having made himself unavailable for the last tour.

There is also a first international selection for 23-year-old opening batsman Mikyle Louis.

Louis, a former West Indies U-19 International, scored 682 runs in his debut First Class season for the Leeward Island Hurricanes at an average of 48.71.

Should he debut for the West Indies in England, he will become the first Kittian to wear the famous Maroon Test cap.

West Indies’ last test match was a resounding victory in Australia earlier this year. Since then, all selected players were involved in the West Indies Championship, which concluded in April and was won by the Guyana Harpy Eagles.

the hit and run accident which claimed the life of 29-year-old Deonarine Budhram on Sunday.

The News Room was informed that the teenager, who works as a cashier, was apprehended hours after the accident. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Police Headquarters in a statement said that Budhram was walking on the John’s Public Road, Corentyne Coast when the pickup, bearing registration number GNN 4363, crashed into him.

As a result of the impact, Budhram was flung into a nearby bus shed.

The pick-up ended up in a nearby drain and the driver immediately fled the scene.

Deonarine was picked up in an unconscious state by a public-spirited citizen and taken to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Speaking to reporters recently, Budhram’s sister-in-law Nandranie Baichan said she is demanding justice.

“Me want justice. Me holding out fah justice. Them got to give me justice for me brother-in-law.

“That car man knock dah bai and left um so. Left dah bai on the road. Nobody nah pick up, nobody nah do nothing. Left um to dead on the road,” Baichan said.

According to Baichan, Budhram left home early Sunday morning and as time passed, she became worried as he was not returning home.

Subsequently, she said she received a call from a relative informing her that he was involved in an accident and he died.

By time she arrived at the scene, Budhram’s body was already removed and taken to the mortuary.

countrywide strike by some teachers has entered day 56 and talks between the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) and the Labour Ministry are scheduled to reconvene on Monday, June 10.

“We are working on a way forward.

“…We have reached out because we believe that this situation must not go on forever – that through dialogue mature, responsible people can mend the differences,” GTU President Mark Lyte said during a live broadcast on Tuesday.

Until then, Lyte said the strike continues.

“Until the favourable terms of resumption are inked, the strike continues.@

Noting that students across the country continue to be affected, Lyte reiterated that there could be no way forward on the process until the terms of resumption are “satisfactory” to the union.

“My concern as leader of the Teachers’ Union is that we are unable to survive on the package that we currently have,” he said.

Lyte said the union and the government were unable to arrive at terms of resumption that would be “fair” to educators during their previous engagements.

“The union won’t compromise further. Our position remains the same.

“We will continue to have our voices raised,” Lyte said.

According to Lyte, members of the union will engage in further discussions on Tuesday afternoon during which “serious” decisions will be made.

An initial five-week strike began on February 5, with teachers demanding higher salary increases and duty-free concessions, among other benefits.

After a court-mediated process in March, talks between the Education Ministry and GTU resumed.

However, discussions were halted when the Education Ministry indicated that there was no fiscal space to cater for increases for the period 2019 -2023.

On April 19, a court ruling by Judge Sandil Kissoon stated that teachers’ salaries should not be reduced because of their involvement in the previous five-week strike organised by the GTU.

The government has moved to appeal the ruling.
