A 29-year-old chef was on Sunday morning held at knife-point and robbed of her handbag containing her personal belongings as she was about to his enter her Kitty, Georgetown house.
Police Headquarters in a statement said an investigation has been launched into the robbery which took place around 10:50hrs.
The victim, Aleya Fiedtkou of Stanley Place and David Street Kitty, Georgetown was relieved of her handbag containing her personal documents and an Apple 11 pro max IPhone valued $200,000.
According to the statement, Fiedtkou was about to enter her yard when she was confronted by two men on a motorcycle. One of the men was armed with a knife.
One of the suspects placed the knife at the victim’s neck while the other lifted his jersey, showing her that he had what appeared to be a firearm in his waist.
This scared the victim and she released the bag to the suspects.
The men then returned to their motorcycle and headed south along Stanley Place, Kitty.
Police said a sergeant, who was seated in his vehicle, observed the robbery and saw the suspects coming in his direction.
So, he came out of his vehicle and discharged three rounds in the suspects direction with his service revolver.
However, despite this, the bandits managed to escape south along Vlissengen Road.
Police said several persons were questioned and CCTV cameras were seen in the area. The camera is yet to be reviewed.
Several health institutions were also visited in search of the perpetrators.
A 31-year-old man was shot and injured during a Police operation in Agricola, East Bank Demerara on Saturday night.
Police said he resisted arrest for allegedly having an illegal firearm in his possession.
Another man, who joined him to attack the ranks with a cutlass, was also wounded.
The men, who were not identified, were shot to their knee and ankle, respectively, around 22:00hrs at Brutus Street, Agricola, EBD.
Police Headquarters in a statement said ranks, acting on information received, ventured to Agricola.
Upon their arrival, the 31-year-old man was sitting in front of his premises. He was accompanied by a group of other men.
According to the Police report, the ranks approached the suspect and informed him that they were in receipt of information that he had an illegal firearm in his possession. So, they requested to carry out a search on his possession.
The suspect refused and Police said he began to behave in a hostile manner.
At this point, Police added that the ranks attempted to search the suspect but he managed to reach to his pants croth, pulled out a 9MM pistol which he pointed to the ranks.
In retaliation, one of the ranks discharged a round in the suspect’s direction using his service pistol. The suspect was struck in his knee and he fell to the ground.
The firearm fell next to the suspect and the ranks took possession of same.
Police said the ranks then tried to place the suspect in the Police vehicle to take him for medical attention.
However, by that time a large crowd had gathered and started to behave hostile towards the Police.
“People in the crowd managed to take the 31-year-old resident away from the ranks, placed him in a white Axio motor car bearing registration number PAD 7596, and attempted to escape the scene,” the statement said.
At this point, the ranks called for assistance and a team from the Tactical Services Unit responded and attempted to apprehend the 31-year-old Agricola man.
It was at this time that the other injured man intervened and was wounded.
“At this point, a male who was among the hostile crowd, armed with a cutlass, rushed towards one of the Police Officers and attempted to chop him. The officer discharged a round in his direction, which hit him on his left ankle,” Police Headquarters explained.
The two injured men were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where they are currently hospitalised under police guard.
Investigators have since processed the firearm, which contained 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Investigations are ongoing.
A group of officers were injured after a Police minibus they were travelling in was involved in an accident on the Timehri, East Bank Demerara Public Road on Saturday night.
The accident occurred around 19:35hrs.
At the time, the minibus, bearing registration number PAE 6755, was driven by a Police rank. It was occupied by several others.
Police Headquarters in a brief statement said the minibus was heading to Georgetown when it struck a concrete median on the road.
This caused the driver to lose control and he collided with an electricity pole.
The driver and the occupants of the minibus were injured. They were taken for medical attention by bystanders.
While some of the ranks were treated and sent away, others were admitted at a city hospital for further medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing.
Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a man in a car in the vicinity of Heroes Highway, East Bank Demerara on Sunday.
The identity of the dead man was not disclosed.
However, Police Headquarters said his National Identification card, a divorce petition between him and a female from the United States of America, were found in his possession.
According to a Police report, ranks attacked to Regional Division 4B were on patrol duty when they observed a silver gray car, (registration withheld) parked.
The car’s ignition was still on.
Upon inspection, Police said the ranks saw the man in the driver’ seat.
There was blood behind the driver’s seat of the car, and to the man’s mouth and nostrils.
The Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and the man was pronounced dead.
The body is currently at the Memorial Gardens funeral home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

State-linked media said three helicopters were in the Iranian president’s convoy, and the two others made it back safely.

It remains unclear exactly what caused the “hard landing”, or whether any of the passengers in the helicopter have been hurt.
Rescue teams dispatched
Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi told state television that various rescue teams were trying to reach the location of the crash, but it might take some time due to fog and bad weather conditions.
Vahidi confirmed that radio contact was made with the helicopter, but offered no further details, and suggested communication lines had been cut.
The Iranian military chief, Major-General Mohammad Bagheri, said later on Sunday that “all the facilities, equipment and capacities of the army, the army corps and the police command should be used to provide relief and search for the helicopter of the president and his companions”.
Government news website IRNA said the president’s helicopter is believed to have crashed in the Dizmar Protected Area, a forested and mountainous zone.
“Now it’s foggy, it’s rainy, and the authorities are saying that this bad weather is going to continue until [Monday] night,” Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar reported from the Iranian capital, Tehran.
“This is going to be quite a challenging task for these rescue teams that are trying to reach the helicopter that was carrying President Ebrahim Raisi,” Serdar said.
The Iranian Red Crescent said it deployed more than 40 separate teams to the region where the incident took place, Serdar also reported.
There has been no confirmation on what type of helicopter was carrying the president and his team.
Iran operates a variety of helicopters, but decades of sanctions have made it difficult to purchase new aircraft or obtain parts.
Many of the military aircraft currently in service in Iran date back to before the country’s 1979 revolution.
James Bays, Al Jazeera’s diplomatic editor, said “Iran’s aviation industry has had a horrendous record”, with nearly 2,000 Iranians killed in plane crashes since 1979.
“And that’s in part due to the fact that they can’t get the equipment they need to service their planes,” Bays explained.
‘Feeling of uncertainty’
As information continued to trickle in about the incident, a spokesperson for the US State Department said the United States was “closely following reports of a possible hard landing of a helicopter in Iran carrying the Iranian president and foreign minister”.
“We have no further comment at this time,” the spokesperson said, as reported by US media outlets.
Charles Michel, president of the European Council, also said in a social media post that he was “monitoring the situation closely”.
Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended “best wishes to the brotherly Iranian people” and said it hoped Raisi and other Iranian officials involved in the crash “are safe and sound”.
The Turkish Emergency Authority also said it was sending vehicles and search-and-rescue experts after Iran requested assistance.
Back in Tehran, political analyst Abas Aslani of the Centre for Middle East Strategic Studies said “a feeling of uncertainty” is hanging over the Iranian capital.
“There are questions and everybody is waiting to hear what exactly has happened,” Aslani told Al Jazeera.
“As time goes on, hopes are decreasing because the conditions are getting much worse and it’s getting darker.”
