The News Room understands that at around 21:00 hrs on the day in question, Danraj was a passenger in motor car PSS 1314, which was being driven by a 26-year-old resident of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

The vehicle was reportedly proceeding north at a fast rate when it collided with the trailer of the container truck at the intersection.

The front of the car was pinned under the trailer which caused Danraj to be pinned inside.

Danraj, who was unconscious, along with the driver of the car, were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

However, around 13:30 hrs on May 26, Danraj of Ogle, ECD, succumbed to his injuries. He was the owner of ‘Terry Wash Bay’.

“The main way to achieve the level of consistency required is to just drive the car as fast as I can,” Maloney added. “The more you complicate it, the harder it gets. The more you simplify it while looking at all the details the more you perform well.

“My job is just to drive as fast as I can in every single session. It’s very easy to come to a race

weekend, be a bit off in practice, and then that’s the race weekend ruined in terms of finding that time again, that pace into qualifying.

“So, the most important thing in F2 is to be on top of everything in practice as a team, as a driver, and that sets you into a good qualifying.”

Maloney started the season with a double win in the sprint and features races in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in March, and he was third in the feature race in the Australian Grand Prix in the same month.

He said he entered the season without great expectations, but there was still room for improvement after every race.

“We have been doing a very good job so far, but there are still many times this season, even in Bahrain, where a certain lap in qualifying – when I qualified in P3 (position three), that lap wasn’t good from my side, and I knew that and tried to improve on that for the next time,” he said. “It’s a very stacked grid. There are lots of great drivers on the F2 grid this year and it’s tough. It’s going to be tough moving on for the rest of the year as well, and I’m just trying to improve every day really.”

Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) in exporting its milk and water to Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo Thursday said Guyana will now treat other countries’ imports with the same scrutiny Guyanese exports come under.

“Going forward we will insist on full reciprocity in matters of trade.

“… If they can insist on phytosanitary tests that we don’t implement for their goods but they want to conduct on our goods before they enter into their market then we will have to deal in the same manner as they are doing with our goods,” the Vice President said.

DDL Chairman Komal Samaroo on Tuesday flagged challenges relating to the export of the company’s products-packaged milk and bottled sparkling water- to Trinidad and Tobago. Two containers of milk were rejected while two containers of bottled water have been subject to extreme scrutiny.

Following much outrage locally, Trinidadian authorities, in a statement, concluded that a “misunderstanding” led to the challenges faced but the country has certain requirements for imports, particularly first-time imports.

It was, however, noted that the country’s Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon gave the commitment to DDL that upon receipt of the relevant information, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago would expeditiously process the regulatory requirements for DDL.

Still, Jagdeo said Guyana has maintained that certain restrictions such as phytosanitary restrictions, should not hinder intra-regional trade. This is particularly important since both Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana subscribe to free trade provisions under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) arrangement.

Phytosanitary measures are quarantine and biosecurity measures implemented by countries to help safeguard against the spread of pests or diseases that may be in agricultural products.

At his press conference, Jagdeo said Guyana isn’t looking for a fight but wants fair treatment.

“We have a long-standing, healthy trade relationship with Trinidad and Tobago… All we want is that our exports be treated fairly in their market as their goods are treated here,” he said.
