A batch of Guyanese athletes and officials have departed the “Land of Many Waters” for Glasgow, Scotland, where they will fly the Golden Arrowhead at the XXIII Commonwealth Games.
The multi-sport event that will feature 10 disciplines and six para-sports will get underway on Thursday, July 23 before concluding on Sunday, August 2.
On Monday, a contingent of locally-based athletes and officials began their journey to Glasgow as they prepare to compete among some 3000 athletes expected at the Games.
Among the travelling contingent were swimming’s Aleka Persaud, 3×3 basketball’s Travis Belgrave alongside the entire boxing team which comprise Akeelah Vancooten, Keevin Allicock, Shakquain James, and Emmanuel Pompey.
Meanwhile, Boxing Coach Lennox Daniels, Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) Vice President Rawle Toney and physiotherapist Vanessa Wickham were also among the travelling Guyanese contingent.
