Police Sergeant who was shot by cousin succumbs

Police Sergeant, Jermain Semple, who was shot by his cousin while trying to part a fight earlier this week, has succumbed to his injuries on Friday afternoon.

This was confirmed by the Police Commander of Region Ten, Hugh Winter.

Semple was shot twice including to his head during the incident which took place on Sunday.

He was subsequently placed on a life support machine and has been receiving critical care.

The shooting unfolded at Crown and Anchor Grill and Bar, Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The suspect, Fawaz McRae, a building contractor of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was recently charged with attempt murder and remanded to prison.

Now that Semple has died, he is likely to face a murder charge.

Reports indicated that Semple, his brother and McRae were imbibing at the bar when a fight started between the Police Sergeant and his brother.

McRae tried to part them but a fight started between him and Semple.

As a result, the suspect allegedly whipped out his licensed firearm and discharged two rounds in the victim’s direction.

Semple was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remained remained in a critical condition until his demise.
