Two remanded for attempted murder following fight over missing pig
Two men appeared at the Albion Magistrate Court on Wednesday charged with the attempted murder committed on Naresh Ramangal of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice.
Rayan Mootoo called ‘Royo’, a 27-year-old labourer of Section ‘B’ Seuden Street, Rose Hall Town and 25-year-old Halley Morgan called ‘Halley’, also a labourer of Dr. Tulsi Street, Williamsburg, appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh to answer the charge of attempted murder, which occurred at Bado Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday last.
They were not required to plea to the indictable charge and were both remanded to prison until April 12, 2023.
Naresh Ramangal is currently hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Police said the incident occurred at about 19:30 hrs between Ramangal and Marcus Morgan, who are friends. They had an argument over a missing pig and Ramangal reportedly hit Morgan on his right side forehead, causing him to sustain an injury.
Halley Morgan and Rayan Mootoo, who were also present, joined in on the scuffle and one of the men stabbed Ramangal in the right side abdomen, causing his organs to protrude. Ramangal and Marcus Morgan were both taken to the Port Mourant Hospital but because of the severity of Ramangal’s injury, he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains in a critical state.
