CONFIRMED: Woman was dropped off at airport one day before found dead at Leguan foreshore

The body of the woman who was found at the Leguan foreshore one week ago has been positively identified as overseas-based Guyanese, Rooma Dookeran, who recently travelled here to conduct business.

Police Commander of Region Three, Mahendra Sewnarine told the News Room on Friday that the investigation so far revealed that Dookeran was last seen by relatives who dropped her off at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, one day before the discovery was made.

“We can confirm that indeed she was dropped off at the airport,” Sewnarine told the News Room.

Dookeran was scheduled to travel back to Canada last Thursday; she had visited Guyana the week before to conduct business, Sewnarine said.

According to Sewnarine, relatives decided to check the funeral parlour upon seeing the news of the body at the foreshore. And there, the body was positively identified as Dookeran.

Investigators are yet to determine how Dookeran might have reached back to Leguan from the airport; an autopsy is expected to be conducted sometime on Friday.

The semi-nude body of Dookeran was discovered at around 08:00hrs last Friday at the Leguan foreshore.
