Berbice clothes vendor sentenced, fined for narcotics possession
A Berbice clothes vendor was on Thursday sentenced to three years, nine months in prison and fined after admitting to having 8.7 kilograms of cannabis in her possession.
Shabeka Spencer, 39 of Lot 479 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennon at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
Spencer pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics.
She was sentenced to three years, nine months in jail and fined $7.9M.
Police acting on a tip off, stopped a car on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon.
Spencer was in the back seat and next to her was the suitcase with the ganja wrapped in clear plastic.
She was arrested and taking to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters where the ganja was weighed in Spencer’s presence.
