Gov’t to fund return of CARIFTA athletes from Bahamas

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will fund the return of the athletes and officials from The Bahamas, who are currently attending the 50th CARIFTA Track and Field Championships that concludes Monday evening.

The group departs Nassau on Tuesday at 07:00 hrs via a chartered flight to Trinidad and Tobago then to Guyana.

They should arrive at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport by 22:35 hrs.

Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, expressed that the government is extremely proud of the accomplishments of the athletes thus far.

Guyana won eight medals – three gold, two silver, and three bronze – to go one better than they did in Jamaica last year.

The majority of the locally-based athletes underwent an ordeal to reach Nassau, arriving mere hours before their events on Saturday.

Returning to Guyana via the chartered flight are: Tianna Springer, Tamara Harvey, Adessa Albert, Malachi Austin, Javon Roberts, Deuel Europe, Immanuel Adams, Narissa McPherson, Attoya Harvey, Ezekiel Newton, Omar James and Odida Parkinson along with officials Mark Scott (Coach), Linden Phillips (Coach), Keith Campbell (Manager), Nolex Holder (Physiotherapist).

Next year, the games will be held in Grenada then head to Trinidad and Tobago.
