Body found tied up under Takutu Bridge identified as teen boy

Police in Region Nine have identified the body found tied up under the Takutu River Bridge as that of 17-year-old Geraldson Joseph, an unemployed teen of North Rupununi.

Police Headquarters reported that Loriana Joseph, a 24-year-old of Lethem, Central Rupununi, identified the body as that of her brother.

Loriana said that while her brother is from the Rupununi, he lived somewhere in BonFim, Brazil, before his death.

Loriana told the Police she last saw her brother ‘alive and well’ during last month’s Rodeo activity.

Police Headquarters on Thursday noted that the body was found at about 16:00 hrs on May 10 under the bridge that links Guyana and Brazil.

It was reported that the man’s body was seen propped up on the wall of the concrete bridge clad in a black long-sleeve shirt and black underwear, with his hands and feet tied with a multi-coloured rope.

In addition, the neck was also tied with a cloth suspected to be the victim’s pants.

An inspection of the body revealed marks of violence on the right knee and the neck.
