City Constable freed of rape case after victim opts not to testify

accused of rape, was freed by the High Court on Tuesday after the complainant said that he no longer wanted to give evidence in the five-year-old case.

Pellew was accused of raping a 16-year-old boy who was arrested for loitering and taken into custody at the city Outpost on August 15, 2017.

It was alleged that while the teen was in custody, he was ordered by Pellew to perform oral sex on him.

Following the presentation of the indictments against Pellew a 12-member jury was empaneled to hear the case before Justice Navindra Singh.
However, on Tuesday, when State prosecutor Nafeeza Baig called the complainant to the witness box, he indicated that he has since moved on with his life and did not wish to proceed further with the matter.

Justice Singh directed the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty and Pellew was freed of the crime.
