Guyana continues high-level engagements with top US officials

Antony Blinken arrived in Guyana for talks with the Irfaan Ali-led administration, a day after he met with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders in Trinidad.

Before that, US Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Caribbean Affairs and Haiti, Barbara Feinstein visited Guyana and engaged Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and other government and opposition officials.

And in March this year, a seven-member bipartisan US congressional delegation, led by Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Jason Smith, visited Guyana for talks with the government, the opposition and officials from the US oil giant, ExxonMobil.

The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest congressional committee and has the responsibility for raising the revenue required to finance the Federal Government. Smith also said this committee is responsible for trade.
