Woman, 19, found dead in Lusignan house

Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old woman, whose body was discovered in her Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD) house early Thursday morning.

The dead woman has been identified as Malinda Niewenkirk of Lot 519 Lusignan, ECD.

Police Commander of Region 4C, Krishnadat Ramana, told the News Room that is believed that Niewenkirk died sometime between 01:00 hrs and 04:00 hrs.

At this stage of the investigation, the Police are treating her death as a suspected suicide until an autopsy is conducted.

Reports are that Niewenkirk and her now 36-year-old ex-boyfriend broke up on Wednesday night and she reportedly threatened to end her life if he didn’t reconcile the relationship.

The two communicated for sometime and the man told investigators he tried to comfort and encourage her not to do that.

The teen, however, stopped responding to him after sometime.

The man further told the Police that he became suspicious and as such, went to make a report at the Vigilance Police Station.

The Police subsequently went to the house when they made the discovery.

The Commander said that no marks of violence were found on her body.
