Man charged with manslaughter over stabbing death of Sophia horse cart operator

fatal altercation with 25-year-old Mark Harris, a horse cart operator of Plum Park, Sophia.

Husbands appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where the charge was laid against him.

It was reported that the two men were at a shop in Plum Park on August 14 when an argument ensued. Harris, who was reportedly armed with a knife, attempted to stab Husbands.

Husbands, however, held on to the knife and armed himself with a pair of scissors which he used to stab Harris multiple times.

It was reported too that Husbands walked to Prasad Nagar Police Outpost and reported the matter to the Police, who then told the accused of the allegation, cautioned and arrested him. An audio and video interview was conducted and he admitted to the crime.

In Court, Husbands appeared remorseful and begged the Magistrate to grant him bail.

Police Prosecutor Quincy Lacon, however, objected to bail in the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. Bail was refused.

Husbands is expected to make his next court appearance on September 14 for statements.
