Golden Jaguars centre-back Matthew Briggs calls time on career

Premier League player for 12 years, when he came off the bench for Fulham against Middlesbrough at the Riverside in 2007, at the age of 16 years, 65 days.

“The time has come for me to hang up my boots. It’s something that has been in the back of my mind for some time now. I’ve struggled with a certain injury for many years now and is one that can’t get better,” Briggs posted on his Facebook page.

The post included a collage of Briggs in his playing days for different teams.

Briggs represented Guyana in the World Cup qualifiers, the Concacaf Gold Cup 2019, Concacaf Nations League B, Gold Cup qualification and two international friendlies.

His lone goal for the Golden Jaguars came in 2019 in a 4-2 victory against Aruba in the Concacaf Nations League B match.
