Meten-Meer-Zorg duo arrested for armed robbery of teenager
Police have arrested two suspects who allegedly mugged an 18-year-old boy at around 11:00 hrs Saturday at Mandir Street De Willem, West Coast Demerara, carting off over $110,000 in valuables, including a cellphone and wristwatch.
The two suspects, ages 23 and 34, both from Meten-Meer-Zorg, WCD, relieved the teenager of a Samsung Galaxy A71 valued at $110,000; a black Tommy brand wristwatch valued at $2,000; a black wallet valued at $3,000 and the teen’s driver’s license.
Police Headquarters reported that the victim was walking home when the two suspects approached him on a bicycle, one of whom held a cutlass to his neck and demanded that he hand over the items.
The suspects escaped but later returned and demanded that the teenager hand over the password for his cellphone. The victim gave the password to the suspects.
The Poice were informed and, acting on information received, contacted the two suspects. They were both told of the allegation, cautioned and they took the ranks to a location in Meten-Meer-Zorg, where the articles were recovered.
The two suspects were arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, where they were placed in custody pending further investigation.
