Corentyne man found dead in hammock

Police are investigating the death of Toorandat Girdharry, who lived at the No. 60 Village, Corentyne, after he was found lying in a hammock covered in blood.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, Girdharry, 58, was discovered at about 14:45 hrs Sunday and the person who found him immediately contacted the No. 51 Village Police Station.

Police went to the crime scene, where they observed the body lying in a reclined position in a hammock that was tied under an abandoned building. The man’s head, arms, and back was covered in what appeared to be blood.

Upon examining the man, a small wound was seen on the right side of his head.

Police reported that the man’s relative told investigators that Girdharry was an alcoholic who usually consumed alcohol under the abandoned building with friends. It was also reported that the man occasionally slept in the hammock.

The body is at Anthony’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
