Bodies recovered from Kanaima Falls boat accident
Police Headquarters reported that Police Commander Dion Moore confirmed the bodies of Alvin Jordan and Kevin Musa surfaced on Thursday afternoon in the Cuyuni River.
Ranks have been dispatched to the location to retrieve the bodies, Police said.
The accident occurred around 18:30 hrs at the Kurutuku Village, Upper Cuyuni River.
According to a Police report, Musa, 44, a miner of Pomeroon, and six of his co-workers including Jordan, 41, a father of three of Fellowship/Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, were consuming alcohol at Kurutuku Village when they stopped the boat and asked for a drop to their mining camp.
The boat was captained by Raul Jarvis of Diamond, East Bank Demerara. It was transporting 14 drums of diesel. Police said about ten minutes into their journey, the boat struck a rock, causing it to sink.
As a result, the occupants jumped out of the boat and swam to shore. However, Musa and Jordan were not located. An alarm was raised and a search party consisting members of the Joint Services was formed.
In an interview with the News Room on Thursday, the mother of Jordan’s children said she is hopeful that he and Musa is still alive and they will be rescued alive.
