According to the Ambassador, China has been working globally to build communities with a shared future in areas including cyber space, nuclear security, maritime affairs and health care.

Noting that Guyana has embarked on a “fast” developmental track, the Ambassador pledged that China will continue to contribute to the transformation and development of Guyana.

“…Guyana demonstrate strong interest in the areas of climate change and food security.

“China is willing to work with Guyana…to deepen mutual political trust, strengthen economic and trade cooperation, enhance civilian exchanges so as to jointly promote multinationalism, safeguard international fairness and justice and make new contribution to the peace and development of the world,” the Ambassador said.

Meanwhile, in his remarks, Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips said the relations between the two countries have created opportunities for economic growth, commerce and investment in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture and education.

In particular, he pointed out the support provided in the health sector, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And going forward, the Prime Minister said Guyana hopes that it can rely on China to support its effort to preserve its sovernity and territorial integrity in the face of Venezuela’s claim to two thirds of its territory.

“The last 170 years of the arrival of Chinese immigrants in Guyana have paved the way for the robust ties that currently exists and we are truly appreciative of the contributions made by our Chinese brothers and sisters to our country’s development,” the Prime Minister Phillips said.

He added: “Guyana looks forward to expanding cooperation and partnership with China.

“We also look forward to collaborating on food, energy and climate security issues that are key to global sustainable development.”
