Roman Roberts wanted over alleged assault of Soldier

The Guyana Police Force on Wednesday said Roman Daniel Roberts is wanted for questioning in relation to the assault of a Guyana Defence Force soldier which was recorded on video and has been widely circulated on social media.

In the wanted bulletin, the Guyana Police Force said Roberts “is wanted for questioning in connection to a disturbing incident caught on camera, and which is making the rounds on Social Media, showing a ‘solider’ in uniform being attacked by a man who claimed to be a gang member.

Roberts’ last known address is 38 Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force is appealing to anyone who has information about the whereabouts of Roberts to please contact them on telephone numbers: 225-6940, 225-8196, 226-7476, 225-2317, 225-8196, 227-1149 or contact the nearest Police Station.

“All information will be treated with strict confidentiality,” the Police said.

A brief statement from the GDF last week noted that “the soldier in question has been absent without leave (AWOL) for over one year.”

The video shows the young solider, dressed in uniform, being restrained by several men while another, armed with a sharp object and masked, cuffed and beat him.

The armed man was being referred to as a ‘Daniel’ by a woman who was pleading for the soldier to be released.
