19-Y-0 dies in Mon Repos accident
An accident on Agriculture Road, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara in the wee hours of Sunday claimed the life of 19-year-old Glenroy James, who resided in the same community.
Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at around 01:45 hrs in the vicinity of Guyana Livestock Development Authority.
The accident involved Motor Lorry #GAD 6445, owned and driven by Mahendra Surujpersaud, a 20-year-old resident of Agriculture Road.
James and 32-year-old Anand Motielall were occupants.
Enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was proceeding south along Agriculture Road; the driver claimed that the lorry’s right front wheel came into contact with a 25 feet lantern pole that was lying across the western side of the road.
This caused the vehicle to topple several times, after which it collided with a utility pole along the western parapet.
The driver and occupants were flung from the lorry.
The driver and Motielall were picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
James was picked up by Police ranks in an unconscious state, placed into a Police pick-up and taken to GPHC, where he was pronounced dead.
The body is presently at Memorial Gardens Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
