Couple arrested with over 2lbs marijuana gets $200k bail
Mark Gentle called ‘Brother’, a 31-year-old miner and his reputed wife Alisa Johnson, a 28-year-old unemployed woman, both of whom reside in Georgetown, were charged on Tuesday with possession of narcotics for trafficking and granted bail in the sum of $100, 000 each.
The charge relates to an incident on Sunday last at Mango Landing, a small settlement in the Wenamu River, close to the Cuyuni River. Police said they were found with 990 grams of marijuana and arrested.
The duo appeared at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce.
They pleaded not guilty and were each placed on $100,000 bail.
Bail was granted on the condition that they report to the Mahdia Police Station every last Saturday of the month at 09:00 hrs. The case was adjourned to April 16, 2024 for trial.
