In major marijuana bust, Crabwood Creek man arrested for second time in five months

A joint services operation between the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) led to the arrest of a man and the inception of some 204 pounds of marijuana on Friday.

CANU and Guyana Police Force ranks conducted an operation in the Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice area on January 12, 2024.

In a statement, CANU explained that during the operation, they observed two males loading bulky parcels onto a boat that was moored at the time.

Upon noticing the presence of CANU Officers, the individuals attempted to flee the scene. One of the suspects was successfully apprehended by officers, while the other managed to escape.

The man arrested was identified as Anthony Sugrim, of Crabwood Creek, who was previously arrested by CANU on August 11, 2023.

Sugrim was escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the narcotic which tested positive for marijuana and weighed approximately 204 lbs. (92.6kg).

Investigations are ongoing.
